What can I do with hundreds of elastic bands

They just accumulate, can’t see anywhere to recycle them, and throwing them in the bin seems irresponsible- it’s bad isn’t it if animals or birds eat them? Anyone do anything with them? Is it safer to throw them away if I cut them up?

I use them so much to seal up packets and bags of food that I always run out of them and need more!

NotNee · 22/01/2022 13:09

Where are they coming from? I had to buy a ball of elastic bands because we hand none anywhere.

Well I would guess the postman? In which case just hand them back every few months.
NotNee · 22/01/2022 13:14

Thanks for your reply, for some reason we don’t have them on our post.

Sorry my post was totally unhelpful Blush

Make a giant elastic ball they are fun and therapeutic to make.

midlifecrash · 22/01/2022 13:15

They come on bunches of spinach and parsley etc mostly

I think the post office take them

Avarua · 22/01/2022 13:16

Keep five of them in your "shit drawer" then offer the remainder on your local free page ? ( Or, bin the rest)
Don't be guilted into keeping stuff you don't want.

Mummyoply · 22/01/2022 13:32

Charities that provide Information booklets get through a massive amount of elastic bands as when bulk orders are shipped to hospitals, libraries etc they are all banded into small bundles. Perhaps donate them locally.

TheChippendenSpook · 22/01/2022 13:38

Make them into a big ball... it will have super special density!

Mosaic123 · 22/01/2022 13:39

A school might want them for crafts?

Frankii · 22/01/2022 13:42

There was a recycling app mentioned on here a while ago called Olio. Put them on there and someone will probably come to collect!

pandora206 · 22/01/2022 13:55

Make one of those Chinese jump rope games and have fun (with a friend)!

Don’t bet on it!

I had free (some new) toys to give away. I got 5 time wasters who said they wanted them but never appeared.

Endofdaysarehere · 22/01/2022 14:02

I need about five if you have some spare - I don’t want to buy a full packet Grin

Redsquirrel5 · 22/01/2022 19:04

Take them to a local primary school. They are useful for Design and Technology when making moving machines

midlifecrash · 22/01/2022 19:11

Turns out the veg stall can reuse them. Don’t know why I never thought of asking them before! Thanks for all the ideas for passing them on, I’m sure I will accumulate more!
