How much to charge for ironing?

Hi, I've just been asked to do a weekly iron, at their house. Just wondering how much to charge? I'm in the north of England. Is £15 ok?

It must surely depend how much there is? Some people charge per hour, others per garment. As an hourly rate, something akin to a cleaner would be appropriate, so £12-£14 per hour

Billywiz1 · 14/01/2022 19:56

Sorry, I missed off 'per hour'. I'm going to do 3 hours of ironing.

£15/hour sounds a lot for the North of England. I pay less for my cleaner in London. Check what the going rate is locally for cleaners, as this is a job cleaners often do.

Pinchofnom · 14/01/2022 21:23

I pay £20 per bag of ironing which probably takes 1-1.5 hours.

MaryAndGerryLivingInDerry · 14/01/2022 21:30

If you’re charging per hour in the clients house, using all their equipment then £15 is about right.

cathyandclare · 14/01/2022 21:34

We pay £25 for a basket of ironing in the north east

I am in Shropshire and pay £15 per hour for my ironing to be done Smile

Redsquirrel5 · 15/01/2022 21:12

That more than I got as a HLTA. North West, I have only seen one lady in a village advertise and that was £12 per hour.

Were you self employed and did you only do an hour or 2 at a time and then travel to the next job?

Redsquirrel5 · 16/01/2022 09:34

That’s

I was just saying because I was surprised. No, I wasn’t self employed I worked for the Local Authority. Yes, I did travel between jobs when I was a TA and a STA. I did 1 1/2 hours at one school then travelled to the next and did an hour. Alternate times each morning. Later on I did some afternoons too. I wasn’t paid for my travelling time or petrol and that was when I was earning about £9 an hour.

As a HLTA I was class teaching, small group teaching(10-15) and had individual pupils with EBD. Financially I would have been better off ironing by the looks of it.

OP will get no holiday pay, pension, sick pay in addition to this £15..... which I’m presuming you do?🙄 £15 sounds fine OP ...l.im NW and my sister in law charges that for cleaning and ironing..... don’t undersell yourself
Redsquirrel5 · 16/01/2022 10:00

I wish I hadn’t bothered commenting I was just surprised 😯

OP good luck to you if you can get £15 an hour.

onedayoranother · 16/01/2022 10:28

Our cleaner ironed as part of her job. We paid £12.50/hour in London but that was some time ago. I paid my cleaner that before I moved recently and she's way outside London. I'm pretty sure she didn't declare it so that's all in her pocket. So I'd say £12.50. Definitely charge by the hour not the load, but I'd also have to assume you were relatively quick.

She would definitely get £15 in the NW where I am

I’m sure ironing was an option for you if that’s what you wanted to do.

MaryAndGerryLivingInDerry · 16/01/2022 11:31

Fwiw I can earn £25-£35 per hour ironing.

boredatlunch · 18/01/2022 16:41

I pay £20 per hour for a service that picks up and drops off. They usually do 1-3 hours depending on load, and use a professional press which I guess makes it faster. £15 an hour seems reasonable and is what I pay my cleaner who is efficient and reliable and deserves ot be well-paid for her efforts.

drybird · 18/01/2022 16:47

My cleaner is paid £20 an hour and this includes 5 shirts a week and she does 4 hours weekly. On the odd occasion I've asked for more ironing to be done I give an additional £20 so £15 is very reasonable I'd say.

gogohm · 18/01/2022 16:48

£12-15 an hour depending on local market, here is £12-14 an hour for a cleaner

Shineyitem · 18/01/2022 19:49

I get 15 ph in the north.

IrishJakIroningLady · 21/04/2024 23:34

I run an ironing and laundry service in South Yorkshire and charge per kg ...I get no less than £30 for minimum of up to and including 7.49kg 🙂
