Cleaning ovens

I have a beautiful new cooker and I want to keep it beautiful. How often do you clean your oven? Every time you cook a roast? Once a year? somewhere in between? what do you use to clean it. Induction hob which is of course the stuff of dreams but I've got two ovens now.

Somewhere in between. DH is very assiduous about cleaning the induction hob every time it’s used. We very occasionally use hob cleaner’ but mostly just water. The oven gets cleaned a few times a year, usually before my mum is coming to visit. I’ve never got it perfect though. It was quite old when I moved in. I use washing soda for the racks and mostly steaming trays of water in the ovens. I can take out the metal sheet above the grill and scrub it.

Oven Pride is fab but idk how eco friendly it is.
And apparently rubbing a damp Tesco basics type hard dishwasher tablet over the glass oven door really cleans it. Have tried, only thing was the tablet crumbs went everywhere. And btw, if you use Oven Pride, leave the plastic soaking bag overnight on a surface that can’t mark, and also make sure you put newspapers under the oven to catch drips / otherwise your floor can get damaged.

Lakeland oven vlwaner is fantastic , I have a gas cooker and it does a great job .
Paint it on with the brush it comes with , leave it for a hour or so and just wipe it off with kitchen roll.
No smell at all

Check 1st if it's ok for induction hobs

Oh it will clean the glass in the door and things like Pyrex bowls but don't get it on non stick or metal roasting tins

I too have 2 ovens. It's very handy as when the element blew in one I have the other as a back up. I've replaced the element today and given it a bit of a clean at the armed time. Since I read about Ash being good for cleaning the glass on log burners I've been using it on my oven door too. Takes a bit of effort but cleans really well. Wet some tissue, dip in Ash and rub on glass. Took me about 5 mins to get it sparkly and it was pretty much opaque to start. Very eco friendly.

Oven Pride (or Elbow Grease from all the bargain shops, much cheaper).
Racks in a bin bag outdoors for a few hours.
Dishwasher tablets wetted and rubbed on any surfaces that the Elbow Grease doesn’t stick to, and scrub with a wire pan scrubber.

I have a self-cleaning oven for the interior but the racks get Elbow Greased.

Oven liners! Bottom shelf and at bottom of grill tray. Revelation! And then I just stick the racks in dishwasher once a week and give the front glass a quick spray. If you do it regularly then it doesn't build up and you don't have to use the heavy duty chemicals.

Omicrone · 06/01/2022 22:08

Oven Pride is great for the racks (so satisfying when you put them in the bags overnight!) and the inside of the oven, but it says you can't use it on the glass? What can you use instead? Might try the dishwasher tablet tip.

Hugasauras · 06/01/2022 22:09

Oh and when I do the glass I do it not long after oven has been used, as the heat loosens any residue and it comes away really easily.
