Shower door seal

We have a curved glass shower door on the bath and the seal that came with it has long since rotted. I have tried so many replacements which claim to work with curved doors, but they just don't - they are not flexible enough (even when heated). I am now using a kind of waterproof rubbery sealant tape, but it doesn't last more than a few days before it starts peeling off again. I don't want to superglue it on as it'll never come off when it starts to deteriorate. Any ideas?

Watching with interest as I have exactly the same problem

BasiliskStare · 04/01/2022 14:09

I hate to say it but if you are spending £££s on your own solutions would a decent plumber be able to fix it ? I had a leak from a shower above my bedroom - through the ceiling and nothing worked I could do until I got a decent plumber out. Not what you want to hear I expect & I hope others come up with better suggestions. One thing the plumber did say is that you need to get rid of every scrap of the current sealant & start from scratch - if you put new over old - it rarely works. But mine was a seal between tiles and shower tray - not a removable rubber seal - if that makes any sense or of any use.

But I am not a plumber so - I wish you well and hope someone will come along with better ideas

Thank you, Basilisk. It's just the bit between the bottom of the shower door and the top of the bath side - but you are probably right.

Have you tried the following company?

www.theshowerseal.co.uk

(although maybe you started there!)

Just buy a sealant and do it yourself it's so easy

I've just removed all the sealant around my shower tray and squeezed on new anti mould sealant. It's so easy to do. I bought the sealant and metal gun trigger thing from Wickes for £11. You have time to wipe away the edges and splodges and neaten what you've squeezed on with your finger

@justlikea
I thought OP was referring to a shower door I don't think sealant will work in this situation.

millefeuille1 · 04/01/2022 14:28

Justlikea - I think the gap is too big for that.
TwoLeftSocks - I have indeed tried them.

@millefeuille1 - Another probably unwelcome suggestion - how long did the original seal last - would it be better to just replace the whole thing with new ? i.e. the whole shower door with new seal - if it lasted a good while it might be better than fixes on a regular basis - but easy to spend someone else's money - I realise Blush

So to clarify, it’s only the bit of plastic under the door which you need to replace, not the silicone sealant between the bath and the walls as some pp are thinking.

You cant use silicone as the door has to open and close.

If the above link to shower seals doesn’t have what you are looking for you could try an alternative.

I know you don’t want to stick something to the door but if you were prepared to reconsider and get an alternative, Id suggest 3M door sealant which could perhaps do short term?

It’s a strip of stuff that has the top bit sticky and the bottom bit plastic. Like a moveable flap and a secure bit. I just ordered on eBay. It says it’s waterproof but I don’t know as I’ve not received mine yet.

It’s on eBay under ‘sealing strip’ and I filtered using ‘diy materials’ and ‘clear’ colour. I also put U.K. location only as I want it soon.

Scroll down till you see the ones that have the 3M logo in the photo. It says it’s non gunky on removal too.

Non branded strips at a couple of cm wide start at three quid a metre, which could do you? I just got 10m of slightly wider 3M branded stuff for £13.58 as I like that make.

PS my shower seal went years ago and I just put a towel down on the bathroom floor now! And keep the recess the water runs down the door into clear of water at all times as that drips onto the floor when I open the door. Although I may try the 3M stuff on it too!

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 04/01/2022 14:40

Is there a name anywhere on the shower door, sometimes in the corner e.g. Showerlux?
If so could you contact the manufacturer.

(maybe you've done this too!)

millefeuille1 · 04/01/2022 14:58

Elieza - I have ordered the 3M stuff and reviews say it works for this, so fingers crossed!

I wonder if you could use the sealant to attach the curved seal with ?

JustLikea · 04/01/2022 14:59

To just the bottom of the door itself

Elieza · 04/01/2022 16:14

Fingers crossed we both get good results for our respective requirements with this stuff Grin

millefeuille1 · 04/01/2022 16:44

I’ll let you know!
