Would you put this in the machine?

Dark purple jumper dress.
Hand wash only. Bleeds a bit when I do it in the bath.

50% cotton
25% viscose
20% nylon
5% cashmere

No decoration or sequins or anything like that - just a couple of ordinary looking buttons.

I HATE hand washing but I really want to wear this over Christmas.

Would you put it in? On 30? With a soft, dark wash (pants and socks).

Oooh go on, say you would.

i would. on gentlest 30. only with pants and socks if they are not too smelly!

BeeWiseMen · 22/12/2007 19:16

well I would but I am very very lazy and don;t have the figure for a jumper dress anyway

hang on - does this make me liable for any damage done to it?

MeMySonAndI · 22/12/2007 19:16

Does your machine has the option to set hand wash to 25 degress or even to tap water temperature.

The cahsmere bit may get a bit iffy with the spinining. you may put it inside of a pillowcase (if you have a dark one) to protect it a bit.

But I would handwash it just in case.

WowOoo · 22/12/2007 19:18

Put it in cold 0 degrees and gentle spin. I do this with a cashmere mix jumper. When I didi it at 30 it shrunk a little. It may lose some shape though - my jumper has got kinda longer and narrower!

LyraSilvertinsel · 22/12/2007 19:19

I put my 100% lambswool jumper dress in the machine on delicates cold cycle and it came out fine.

LyraSilvertinsel · 22/12/2007 19:19

Also put it on 600 spin.

WanderingHolly · 22/12/2007 19:25

I would machine wash it, but I have a cavalier attitude to clothes washing.

My machine has a 'handwash' setting - if yours doesn't, put it on the wimpiest programme.

And pillowcase good idea.

DaisyMoo · 22/12/2007 19:27

I would do it on a gentle wash and no spin then wrap it up very tightly in a towel a couple of times to get most of the water out before hanging up.

pukkapatch · 22/12/2007 19:29

yes. if i was being good, it would go int he handwash ccyle.
not so good, the synthetics cycle, but there are precious few of those.
comlete idiot, it would go in the bog standard, 40 cottons, with everything else. some things have been known to survive.

i never ever ever handwash.

georgie34 · 22/12/2007 19:43

I would definitely chuck it in the machine, on coolest most 'delicate' cycle. 50% cotton plus nylon and viscose is pretty robust imo.

BroccoliSpears · 22/12/2007 19:50

Mumsnet has spoken. It's going in. I'll let you know...

OP posts:
LyraSilvertinsel · 22/12/2007 19:52

Incidentally I always do pants and socks on 60 degrees to kill off all those bugs. 30 just doesn't cut the mustard imo.

BeeWiseMen · 22/12/2007 20:08

does anyone else feel nervous? [bites nails emoticon]

pinkbubble · 22/12/2007 20:11

I would put it on the coolest wash and in a pillow case that I didn't mind getting ruined. That is how I wash DDs dress from Monsoon and so far so good, it has washed well (the instructions dry clean only )

Unfitmother · 22/12/2007 20:18

I would - good luck

BroccoliSpears · 22/12/2007 20:42

It's in. Very short cycle, so you won't have to wait on tenterhooks for long Bee ! It's in a dark green pillowcase with another couple of dark cardis.

So, who shall I sue if it goes wrong?

OP posts:
BeeWiseMen · 22/12/2007 20:56

it's probably not worth suing me but you can punch me if you like. I'm pretty drunk now so I won;t feel it.

BroccoliSpears · 22/12/2007 21:12

Am not in the habit of punching people Bee. Even drunk people...

OP posts:
BroccoliSpears · 22/12/2007 21:13

And no need to sue (or punch) anyone because it's fiiiiiine! Hurrah! It came out fab. Drying gently near a radiator.

OP posts:
BeeWiseMen · 22/12/2007 21:26

well I'll have another little drinky to celebrate,

actually I should punch you for being able to wear a jumper dress. I'd just look like I was defrosting the turkey under there.

hope you look and feel v sexy in it. And now you never have to handwash it again. hurrah!!

BroccoliSpears · 22/12/2007 21:44

Gah! There will be no punching!

And lmao at what I look like in a jumper dress - I'm 24 weeks preggers with an enormous bump, and am beyond looking or feeling sexy in anything!

And I can't even have a little drinky to celebrate!
