Gas or induction?

Decided to look for a new cooker. Freestanding not built in as we rent from HA. I've always had gas. It's what I learnt to cook on. I hate electric unless it's an oven. I've detested a gas cooker forever especially when baking but couldn't afford a dual fuel till now. But we have been looking at induction cookers instead.

Had anyone switched over? How did you find it? Is induction really as good as gas when it comes to how quickly it responds? By that I mean if you turn down the heat is it instant like gas or slower like electric?

Spent 4 days at my parents' over Christmas and got very cross with their induction. Every stir, however gentle sent the pan skidding across so it turned off. Button function all very inconsistent.

They've recently had the whole kitchen done and had to replace like for like with the induction but if they were on mains gas they would have replaced the previous induction with gas in a heartbeat.

@BluebellsGreenbells Thanks for that 👍. Am seriously considering swapping over.

I moved from gas to induction as well.

I found it much easier to clean, just as fast when cooking and easier on the eye. Plus it turns itself off if anyone leaves it on while not in use.

Thank you everyone. I just ordered an induction cooker! It's being delivered on the 12th Jan. And even better is I discovered a wedding present at my parents we hadn't used yet which is a set of pans that will replace the ones we are going to get rid of!

I'm so excited!! Now I know I'm old.

One thing I never thought of until the store called to arrange delivery is that if you have any sort of medical implant like a pace maker then induction isn't for you. Because of the magnetic fields the implants heat up and can start cooking the person from the inside out which is scary but makes complete sense when he mentioned it and something I never thought would be a consideration.

Good choice. I’m going to another yes for induction. Clean is the main benefit. No burnt marks on bottom of your pans and a sparst and wipe and it looks good as new. No taking hits off and scrubbing. You won’t be disappointed. I’ve had mine for nearly a year and wouldnt go back to gas.

Gas. Hated induction, constantly turning itself off when water splashed on it. Temperature no where near as easy to control as gas.

I have induction and I'm a big fan. Wouldn't go back to gas. Quicker to cook and easier to clean too.
