Rug doctor

Hi, I am thinking about buying a rug doctor for cleaning my carpets. Has anyone used one/bought one and found it cleaned the carpets?

Or can anyone please recommend another carpet cleaner.

Thank you

I've just hired them occasionally. They do get a lot of muck out.

Thanks for sharing your experience Merry. Good to hear they remove a lot of dirt/grime. Are they good at removing stains?

I've used a hired rug doctor throughout the house a couple of times. They're excellent at cleaning large areas and also work well on smaller, tougher stains. You can buy stain treatment spray at the same time as you buy the regular cleaning fluid, which really helps. They're not too difficult to pull across the carpet, but they are heavy to lift up and down stairs. You'll also be appalled at the colour of the water you tip away after you've cleaned the carpet!

We hire one a couple of times a year and I actively look forward to it, it does a great job!

I would never buy one, mainly because they are very bulky to store, and the hiring system is so straightforward and well-established.

@TheFoldOx, oh yes, black black water. I actually did mine again the next day and it was only slightly less black!

Don't you have to remove all the furniture from the room? Unless you want a two-tone effect on your carpet.

Why woukd you hire one a couple of tines a year. Just buy a van carpet cleaner...they're amazing. Tank always comes out brown even if the carpet looks clean already! They last 10 years if you get a good one so work out way way cheaper.

Vax!

Catcrazy83 · 27/12/2021 21:38

They’re amazing to hire. So much better than the vax you can buy

We had a lovely thick good quality carpet it swamped our carpet and didn't suck up the water. Had to get a professional in to sort it out who said its a regular problem with thicker carpets. We used a bissel cleaner for years prior without any problem.

We actually had a Vax a few years ago and found it to be a bit of a let down but it might be that we didn't have a good model. It was too small to feel like it was doing much but also a pain in the arse to store. The Rug Doctor just seems an all round more efficient machine to me.

I bought a vax carpet cleaner years ago and found it useless. Good to read positive things about rug doctor. The thought of the dirty water 🤢 just shows what sits in carpets 😕

Rug doctors are amazing! Always do such a good job. I did buy a vax to try and cut costs but it was absolutely rubbish.

StarryNightSparkles · 28/12/2021 00:23

Thanks for another vote of confidence @Emmelina

I bought a Bissell Proheat. Think it was £150 refurbished from ebay. Well worth the money as I use it 2-3 times per year. It's bulky to store though.

Morechocmorechoc · 28/12/2021 21:10

Just out of interest to those who had a vac and use rug doctors, did you have a decent c.200 pound vax? I'm wondering if I missed something as I find my carpet cleaner excellent and if the rug doctor will do something more.
