Anyone have a Miele dishwasher?

Ours (not Miele) has just gone kaput - great timing , and we're looking at new ones. Which? seems to rate Miele very highly, but I've never really liked the idea of the cutlery tray thing being a separate layer.

If you have one, is this a good idea in practice? Can I still just chuck a handful of cutlery in without having to lay it all out piece by piece in a single layer?

Do you love yours? Is it the best you've ever had? The integrated ones are farking expensive, so want to know if it's going to be worth splashing out on.

We once had a Miele in a holiday house abroad - I didn't even spot the cutlery tray for several days, I think someone must have been delegated to wash the cutlery by hand (probably muttering "where TF is the cutlery drainer" all the while )

When I did manage to locate it I was impressed - yes it's fiddly slotting everything into place; but you generally do it bit by bit during the day, not all at once, and nothing gets stuck together as it can in the drainer, so it all comes out pristine.

(We have a cheap dead basic Bosch which does the job OK, but I do help it along by soaking very mucky things first)

bumpity bump, ours is indiset, so no help...

Well, we have a Miele but I'm not the kind of person that gets terribly excited about dishwashers.

It does what it says on the label - and the cutlery thing in fine. You can chuck it all in and sort of smooth it into the ruts.

You do get a fair bit more stuff in the bottom because the cutlery container isn't there.

OK must stop now or I might surprise myself and become a dishwasher bore

We used to have Bosch WW, and were quite happy with it, but the current one is Smeg.

lol at you not spotting the tray!

Am not liking the sound of 'fiddly' though. Everything is done in a rush here!

Hi,I have a Miele dishwasher and love it.
The cutlery tray is a great idea as never liked the basket ones were all the cutlery stands up,much safer in my opinion.
You do need to lay it out in a layer but I just put it in all mixed up where as DH insists on putting the knives together, forks etc

We also have a childproof lock on ours which was great when our children were smaller.

My MIL swears by hers and has had it for years.
Ours is free standing and although cost a bit more would say it is worth spending the extra money on.

Oh admit it soapy - you are excited!
Much prefer the sound of 'chuck it in and smooth it over'!

Meant to add it is very quiet as well

We were going to buy a miele one, but the 'expert' in John Lewis said that whilst for washing machine and dryers, they would definitely reccommend Miele, the best dishwasher is siemens. Apparently miele don't actually make the dishwashers or something, but I know someone who has one and reallylikes it. Love our siemens one though.

I have a Miele and the tray is FAB, the best invention ever, you can sort all your cutlery in order of teaspoons knives etc etc etc and it is a lot safer with no knives pointing upwards. Pulls out easy and is quicker to load than the baskets. We had a Miele in our old house and loved it, just replaced the fitted Smeg with a new Miele 'cos we missed it so much. Once you have tried the drawer you'll wonder why all dishwashers don't have it. Plus tons more room than others. Better cleaning too.

I'll shut up now.

ScottishMummy · 24/12/2007 20:17

yes Miele was VGood

nannyL · 26/12/2007 00:16

the cutlary reay is fab and means every bit of cutlary washes properly

and things like childrens cup lids and anything else thing enough to fit.

without the besaket you can fit more stuff in the dishwasher as well

miele dishwashers are my favourite!

(hotpoint my worst)

We love our Miele and would never get anything else -- and we have one which doesn't have a separate cutlery tray. Best thing about it is it is so quiet to run.

throckenholt · 29/12/2007 19:49

I like the cuttlery tray - it gives more room for the rest in the main body.

Otherwise they are great. I think Miele are doing 10 year gaurentees at the moment.

alibag · 31/12/2007 09:24

I add my vote for the Miele cutlery tray - it was the only reason I would agree to getting a dishwasher (as I hate the squeakiness you get on glass - like fingernails on a blackboard for me and I can't touch the glasses anymore). we have a 45 cm wide dishwasher, had it 6 years, works like a dream, expensive but good brand.

alibag · 31/12/2007 09:57

and now a quiet geeky dishwasher question: since the tray appeals to those of us who like a bit of order in our dishwasher (I do like something in my life that I can control) do you put knives with blade down or blade up?

alibag · 31/12/2007 09:58

or is it really sad that I even think about that?
