bought distilled malt vinegar in stead of white, it's not the same is it ...

Feel a bit daft, but I've come home with the wrong sort haven't I.

Can I use it for anything else?

Woodenchair I apply white vinegar (the "wrong" type - see above post) direct and undiluted to the underarms of dh's shirts if particularly sweaty. It seems to work; I always wash them immediately and I haven't noticed him smelling of chips...

coby, no I am not a lollipop agent! My name comes indirectly from the Hungry Caterpillar book, he starts off eating one piece of chocolate cake etc... Anyway my dd1 (3 years) used to say "one piece of" in front of all the foods, which I thought was quite sweet. Hence onepieceoflollipop. Wish I was a lollipop agent though, would be a nice job.

Some people here seem to be confusing distilled malt vinegar (a clear liquid) with malt vinegar (a brown liquid).
White vinegar and distilled malt vinegar (and other distilled vinegars) are made in different ways, but are effectively very similar except that white vinegar can have a higher concentration of acetic acid (5%-20% for white vinegar; typically 5%-8% for distilled vinegar), but some white vinegars have around the same concentration as typical distilled ones.
They can be used for most of the same purposes, but the more concentrated of the white vinegars are likely to be better for cleaning/disinfecting.

Malt vinegar (the brown one) is different though.
