I am insanely jealous

Humph

happystory · 20/12/2007 14:48

keep salt and rinseaid topped up when it tells you to, it really makes a difference, esp if you have hard water

Maidamess · 20/12/2007 14:56

I'm too! I've washed up the traditional way for 4 years now, as we were always 'just about' to get the kitchen done, so buying one didn't seem worth it. The new kitchen is imminent...can't wait! Enjoy yours!

discoverlife · 20/12/2007 14:58

If your kettle gets furred up, you have hard water. In fact hard water is more common in Britain than soft. Once you start using it, if you get white streaks on your glasses etc. then you haveyour rinse aid set too high, lower the setting 1 notch at a time.

minspugs · 20/12/2007 19:58

have bought some salt, not got anyrinse aid though! what is it? is it not already in the tablets? there finish ones! dishwasher still not plumbed in but hopefully he'll be finished soon

discoverlife · 20/12/2007 21:58

Some tablets have rinse aid other cheaper ones don't. It just that I was given this very large economy/catering sized bottle of rinse aid and its still going strong 2 years later.

smartiejake · 20/12/2007 22:33

Don't bother with finish- they are very expensive.
I often use the supermarket own brand ones. Waitrose and coop 3 or 4 in one tablets are great and much cheaper than finish.
Be careful though- they claim to have salt in them and it'd never enpough. Make sure you keep the salt topped up.
Never use rinse aid- it's in the tabs- happy dishwashing!

Top tip! Dishwashers aren't just for dishes! Anything that doesn't go in the washing machine goes in the dishwasher! Its going to be an extra sparkly Christmas in your house this year! Enjoy!

whenachildisbob · 20/12/2007 22:43

I've had mine for a week now and it's changed my life - seriously! I stroke it and whisper sweet nothings to it every time I go into the kitchen.

coby · 20/12/2007 23:03

I'm in love with mine - had it a few months now and honestly (I know is sounds a bit OTT) but it has really changed a lot in our house - so much more time for DDs and other, previously negalected, housework).

Rinse aid?????? Just use some cheapy vinegar (not malt!) instead, just as effective and sooo much cheaper. I don't think you necessarily need rinse aid though but a good boost for your glasses every now and then.

Been using finish tablets for a while - didn't want to try anything else and get poor results. Then one day decided to give Tesco Eco friendly tablets a go and they work just as well. They are cheaper and no unneccessary chemicals on your plates so I'm happy.

Krimble · 20/12/2007 23:12

I have very soft water so never bother with salt or rinse aid and get what ever tablets are on offer.

mybabysinthemanger · 20/12/2007 23:14

You can wrap chicken breasts (plus your preferred seasonings) in a layer of clingfilm followed by a layer of tinfoil, place them on the top rack, run a normal cycle and voila! poached to perfection.

SantasElasticKnickers · 20/12/2007 23:15

yup, you can put toys in,
bath toysespecially

i love my dishwasher

DEBauchedChristmasMUMmers · 20/12/2007 23:18

I stare at my kitchen and try to work out where I can put a dishwasher - but washing machine is more important (as is oven & hob).
Cats get headaches in my kitchen.

Krimble · 20/12/2007 23:19

Why would you run a dishwasher just to poach some chicken breasts?????????

EricScrooge · 20/12/2007 23:21

They are great but don't belive the crap you see on telly when the dishes come out looking like when you bought them.

Krimble · 20/12/2007 23:24

My casseroles still have marks all round even with the pricey stuff.

Always best to rinse the crap off too its a dishwasher not a waste disposal system.

Good to rinse off any thing like tomato sauces and soup or you cutlery basket will stain very quickly.

EricScrooge · 20/12/2007 23:26

Cereal is always a bugger too.

You have to rinse stuff out before whacking it in there or it doesn't clean it properly otherwise.

TheTwelveDAISYOfChristmas · 20/12/2007 23:28

I've had mine for a couple of months and I LOVE it soooo much.

We only got a slimline one as space at a premium, but now wishing I'd made the space to accommodate a full sized one.

It has revolutionised my life!

smartiejake · 20/12/2007 23:29

I heard you could poach salmon in a dishwasher too.

coby · 20/12/2007 23:32

My dishes etc come out like new after being through the dishwasher. It's not a really expensive model and the tablets I use are cheap.

PMSL at the stupid advert where the woman gets in a huff because her tupperware has come out of the dishwasher with water droplets on it (perish the thought). The poor cow had to dry all her tupperware by hand until she discovered new

EricScrooge · 20/12/2007 23:37

Yeah - i think it was Rick Stein that showed how to do a poached salmon in it.

minspugs · 21/12/2007 09:28

wow, i have fallen head over heels in love even stayed up late last night so i couuld have a go before i went to bed its heaven, no manky dishes and cups every where. ive only got a slim line as my kitchens so tiny but you can get loads in it. poor dh had to change the kitchen sink and replumb and wire the kitchen so he could get it in. hes definitly in my good books though .
dont think ill be cooking chicken in it but may well try washing new babies bottles in it when she comes along
