Drying washing indoors - how do you do it ?

TheOriginalNutty · 19/12/2021 13:21

Family of 3 adults. Probably generating more washing that we should but hey ho.

We had a condenser dryer but I recently got rid because it was taking ages to dry anything, and previous condenser dryers have been the same. Can't have a vented one as no where to put the vent.

Are any of the heated ones any good ?

I think the dry buddy would be too small for us but some of the Lakeland ones seem ok. Any experience of any of those ?

We have a couple of these

We also have a normal clothes airer and we have a dehumidifier that we occasionally run if we have a lot of washing. Occasional as it can be expensive.

We do have a TD but hardly ever use it, I don’t like the way it makes clothes feel & crease and the cost aspect.

I just got a new condenser dryer and it’s amazing. I did t realise how rubbish my previous one was.

Thornrose · 19/12/2021 13:28

I swear by my dehumidifier with a clothes drying setting.

Hang the clothes, switch it on and perfectly dry clothes in a few hours.

I haven't noticed my electricity usage going up since I've had it.

sheeplikessleep · 19/12/2021 13:28

We have a plug in dehumidifier and I try to ‘stagger’ washing so there isn’t more than one or two loads drying at the same time. It’s a pain though.

Roselilly36 · 19/12/2021 13:29

I have some radiator Airers, and use my dehumidifier, makes the washing dry quicker and reduces condensation.

Floralnomad · 19/12/2021 13:30

I replaced my vented dryer with a condenser this year and it’s a revelation how quickly things dry in it . Anything that doesn’t go in the dryer gets hung on coat hangers at the French doors and is dry within 24 hours .

dementedpixie · 19/12/2021 13:32

Depends how much room you have. I have a tower airer from argos plus a concertina type one

CherieBabySpliffUp · 19/12/2021 13:33

I just use airers and try to wash stuff at least a day before I need it, so it has time to dry. I do have a JML dry buddy thing that I use occasionally if I need something quickly.

Clarkey86 · 19/12/2021 13:34

Can anyone recommend their condenser dryer? We’re currently using the dehumidifier method but with a baby on the way we’d like to buy a drier.

Gagagardener · 19/12/2021 13:36

Drybuddy. Bit fiddly, like rotary washing line, nut the cover makes it look tidy.

trilbydoll · 19/12/2021 13:39

Lakeland heated airer. Hang the clothes over 2 bars and your average polycotton t-shirt is dry in 3-4 hours. Quicker if you put a dehumidifier next to it.

Underwear on a peg hanger thing in the airing cupboard or you can get ones that hang off the heated airer.

Floralnomad · 19/12/2021 13:44

@Clarkey86 we have a Bosch , it’s this model WTN85280GB

cptartapp · 19/12/2021 13:44

I just stick it all on the radiators. It's all dry in about an hour.
Well ventilated house. No problems. Have a tumble dryer but it only gets used as a last resort on wet days in summer.

JohnLapsleyParlabane · 19/12/2021 13:46

We installed a pulley airer over the stairs and it's a game changer.
Also a dehumidifier with clothes setting in a small room works well (recommend Meaco DD 8L)

purplesequins · 19/12/2021 13:47

line in the attic.
nice and drafty up there. clothes dry quickly.
also have a heated airer but only switch it on if I need things to dry even quicker.

Stringervest · 19/12/2021 13:47

Like pp, a dehumidifier on a washing drying setting. Look up Meaco - ours was £125 about 8 years ago. I have it on the lowest setting in the room with me while I WFH and it both dries the washing and warms the room so I don't have to heat the house. Washing dry by the end of the working day. They are pretty energy efficient - definitely more so than tumble driers.

Farcry66 · 19/12/2021 13:50

I have a dry buddy, 2 kids and me fresh uniform everyday plus weekend clothes. I have to do a load midweek or I won't get it all dry at the weekend, but generally a full one takes 2 hours to dry cheap as chips to run. Underwear and stuff goes on clothes horse by a radiator.

Really really want a tumble dryer but something kore urgent always comes up to spend my money on!!!

kokokokokokokokoko · 19/12/2021 13:51

my condenser dryer is amazing - no issues, ever!

kokokokokokokokoko · 19/12/2021 13:52

i have a beko (cheap and cheerful) one that's done me good for 4 years so far, and still perfectly working

Thesechipsdontlie · 19/12/2021 13:55

Heated airer, was £55 and is quite compact

NannyR · 19/12/2021 14:05

Using a dehumidifier in a small room with the door shut and the clothes on an ordinary airer works really well, the clothes dry quickly and you don't have all that moisture going into the air, which can cause damp/mould problems. I use a heated airer at work and don't find it that effective - it's a good quality, sturdy airer but the heated part of it doesn't make much difference as to how quickly things dry.

megletthesecond · 19/12/2021 14:09

Airer at the top of the stairs.
I do line dry all year round too though.

Gwenhwyfar · 19/12/2021 14:11

"I just stick it all on the radiators. It's all dry in about an hour."

An hour???
When I used radiators it took overnight.

pansypotter123 · 19/12/2021 14:32

@Thornrose please could you (or anyone else) tell me the make of your dehumidifier with the drying function? I have a small dehumidifier in my utility room and have it on when I have washing drying on an overhead pulley type airer. I've been interested in one with a drying function for some time. Thank you!

astoundedgoat · 19/12/2021 14:36

I got this a couple of months ago (my first dryer ever!) and it's amazing.

And we have the Lakeland heated airer too - also brilliant.
