DSIS has recently had her kitchen revamped.
She works long hours.
She lives alone.

I asked MIL for ideas and was told to get her a voucher but DH and i would rather get a gift if possible (probably from somewhere like John Lewis so that she can return it if it's really not to her liking).

I thought maybe dear Mumsnetters might be able to come up with some ideas.

Pricewise between £30-£50.

TIA

My favourite gadget is our electronic tin opener.

I know Blush .

Does she cook alot? Some of my single friends eat out a great deal or get take-aways. My favourite kitchen things are:

  • oxo thick handle peeler (I refuse to use any other now)
  • electric can opener. (I think it was fairly cheap from Sainsburys, Tesco or argos about 10yrs ago and still going strong)
  • A set with a stick blender, balloon whisk and grinder

Instant Pot

Sent before I'd finished!

  • I got a voucher one year to John Lewis and bought a raclette. Vaguely similar to a fondue, but more like a grill where you can melt cheese over little trays, rather than dipping a stick into melted cheese. Its useful for a party or when we have friends around.
  • Slow cooker
  • Electric pressure cooker

My Pampered Chef chopper . I love it and chop everything with it.

trulyconfuseddotcom · 13/12/2021 23:01

Hand whisk/blender/chopper thing, I use it all the time! Smoothies, pancakes, sauces, baking, soup - loads of uses and much easier to clean and store than a food processor.

Silicone scraper for jars - sorry, I don’t have a link for this. It’s smaller than a regular silicone scraper so you can get the last bit out of jars. I got mine in tkmaxx years ago and it’s very good quality and has lasted nearly a decade where cheaper ones got icky looking. It’s worth spending more than you’d think is reasonable for a good one.

microwave pans. from lakeland. I cook much more in the microwave with them (frozen peas / any frozen veg / hot chocolate / porridge / melting chocolate for recipes etc). And they are small & go in the dishwasher easily.

I have this Bosch hand blender which also acts as a mini chopper - comes with a bowl & lid attachment. That's been a really useful thing for dips, chopping onions, smoothies etc.

Other than that - in your price range - I am loving my large travel mug - my tea/coffee stays hot for hours (brand is Ello).

The other thing I'm about to buy is a spice grinder as I find my mini chopper doesn't quite get it fine enough.

Classica · 14/12/2021 00:42

I have a chopper similar to this one and I use it all the time. Great for finely chopping an onion, making paté, blitzing anything really. Really sturdy and not as fiddly as the smaller Kenwood choppers.

Thank you all for the replies. I shall read more thoroughly later.

My favourite timesaver is having everything dishwashable. Ravenhead tulip wine glasses, a chopping board made of wood pulp and resin. Also a good colander. It's quite hard to buy kitchen stuff if you don't know exactly what she has already but a nice casserole dish, serving bowl, mugs, teatowels even will get used even if she already has similar things. Whereas no one needs 2 waffle makers.

I'd love something like this shallow hob to oven casserole
