Toilet troubles

My en-suite has been out of action the past year due to a problem with pipes, it’s instead become a storage room and the toilet in there made redundant.
The ball valve on there has broken which means sometimes it works as normal but other times it’ll continuously trickle water into the bowl.
I had thought the last I had flushed it it had been ok. Obviously not.

How do I get these marks off the bowl? There was a loo block in the cistern, that’s gone a manky brown colour and has welded to the side but I’m desperate to get these stains from the bowl if at all possible.

I’ve tried bleach and giving a good scrub but it’s not budging.

Any advice (rest of room is sorted now so would like to start using again!)

Leave bleach on then brush off if it's worse than that you can use a non metal scourer or even some sand paper. Anything metallic may scratch

Novasmummy · 13/12/2021 20:04

I would leave the bleach overnight

Grottytoilet · 13/12/2021 20:18

Thank you will give the first option a try.
Have tried leaving bleach overnight and it got rid of the mark near the water but not the long brown streaks (that look like giant poo trails Blush )

Use a toilet limescale cleaner. The constant trickling water will have left deposits of limescale. But get a plumber out to it if no-one in the house can sort it!

Maelstrom23 · 13/12/2021 20:27

Soda crystals overnight

BluebellsGreenbells · 13/12/2021 20:32

Limescale remover

Left on overnight for a few nights then a good scrub.

The black one is reall good - can’t think of the name it’s £1 in Tesco

Grottytoilet · 13/12/2021 20:40

Thank you all,
the trickle is being sorted this week so won’t be an issue in the future.
Will try a limescale remover on there.
Thank you

Limescale remover.

Or wet and crush a denture tablet and cover it over with it overnight. Scrub, Rinse and repeat

Inmypjsagain · 13/12/2021 20:42

Soda crystals and neat white vinegar, if you can soak a tissue and leave on the brown parts. Once it’s cleaned off I’d then go over with bleach. Good luck! 🚽

Pumice stone and rubber gloves

dudsville · 13/12/2021 20:46

Gloves and baking soda or bar keeper's friend and a gentle sponge - you don't want to lose the porcelain.

Thefuturestory · 13/12/2021 20:52

If all else fails caustic soda but do not mix with anything else and proceed with caution.

Nancy Birtwhistle has really good tips for toilet cleaning. She's on Facebook and Insta.

Black harpic or full fat Coca Cola. Remove the water from the bottom first, leave to sit overnight.

Gingernaut · 13/12/2021 21:10

FGS! Don't mix bleach with anything else.

Grottytoilet · 13/12/2021 21:24

Thanks ginger I do know not to mix it, I am fairly clean and tidy but fortunately not a Facebook cleaning addict who likes to put 20 different solutions down the pan on a daily basis Grin

Denture tablets may help shift some of it. Looks like it will need a scrub.

Grandville · 14/12/2021 12:50

Black harpic was the only thing that worked for my similar (but much smaller) stains. You might need to do several cycles to get through the layers of limescale.
