Water collected in wardrobe

Nitgel · 04/12/2021 19:39

This amount of water was collected in just three weeks from my wardrobe :( from a small hanging thing.

I also use a small dehuminifier. Do I need to invest in a large dehuminifier ! I open the windows daily.

Is the wardrobe on an outside wall? If the wardrobe isn't a fitted one it might be worth insulating the wall behind the wardrobe. That does seem quite a lot of water to be collecting, especially as you're already using a dehumidifier! The large dehumidifiers are amazing, but I find they make the air too dry to sleep in at night. I try to make sure my wardrobes aren't too full, and leave the wardrobe doors ajar so that the air can circulate.

I have tried taking stuff out. it's not on an outside wall which is why I find it odd. but it does have a chimney behind it, guess it could be that

That does seem a lot. Could the clothes going into the wardrobe have some moisture in them either from ironing or if the hems are still slightly damp?

I have a condensing tumble dryer and am always amazed at how much water comes off clothes which don't seem that wet.

Also what is the hanging dehumidifier thing. It sounds very interesting.

Maybe I fo have a condenser dryer but try to put things in the airing cupboard.

The hanging thing was a cheapy item from the local hardware, sells anything shop. It has crystals at the top and the water collects beneath.

I have similar in my wardrobes, got those hanging dehumidifiers too. They're against an internal wall.
Originally thought it was because they were new pine which maybe still needed drying out but they're 4 years old now. Clothes that I don't wear (and wash) regularly smell of pinewood.
Usually takes me a few days to get round to putting my laundry away Blush so don't think it's from putting damp clothes away.
Open my windows every day, have regular declutters and leave the wardrobe doors open for a while.
Watching to see if anyone comes up with a solution.

We had this with a fitted wardrobe along the adjoining wall with the next door neighbour. It improved hugely when we took the doors off and replaced them with panel curtains hung from a wooden curtain pole.

Looked much nicer too and we didn’t need to keep a space clear for the doors to open.

Nitgel · 18/12/2021 10:04

I don't think it would look nice if we took off the doors, not sure what else I can do

A chimney breast is an outside wall so make sure there is a good airgap around your wardrobe. Since you open your windows daily then open up your wardrobe doors at the same time to air it out. I have a large dehumidifier and would never be without one now. Not only does it take away the moisture it also helps to warm the room up. Double win!

Warmduscher · 18/12/2021 13:16

Has your chimney been blocked up? We got condensation patches in the chimney breast in our attic room because the warm air going up the chimney from downstairs had nowhere to go.

So we got a roofer to uncover the chimney and reinstate proper chimney pots and the condensation has disappeared.

Nitgel · 18/12/2021 22:17

I will investigate the chimney
