House destroyed by children

Can anyone tell me-
How to clean white painted walls? They are covered in finger prints, crayon, paint and unknown marks. They look so grubby. In a few parts the wall is damaged because something has been rammed into it. How can I cover this up?

How do I clean dirty white curtains? Stains same as walls. They feel silky but probably something synthetic.

Best place to buy a new small sofa on a budget?

Many Thanks

You could probably paint over the marks on the wall if you wash off the worst of grease first.
I use H&G mould spray in the shower every few weeks to clear away black mould (it's a 20 year old shower and looks fine thanks to this).
I spray in the morning after everyone's showered and leave it on.
But wash it off before children use the shower

That all sounds normal to me for the ages of the dc. We put off redecorating until the dc were a bit older. Hot soapy water will take a good bit off the walls but they’ll probably need to be repainted eventually.

Be careful with curtains. I machine washed mine on 30 degrees which caused the outside layer to shrink so the lining was showing at the bottom! Now I do a long soak followed by a long cold wash.

Why do your children have unsupervised access to crayons and paint in the first place?

I've been cleaning- the walls and curtains are finally clean. I could cry. Really appreciate all advice given here. Hope it's ok to ask more- how do I clean blinds-? They are bit dirty/ mold?

Also how do I clean white textured wallpapered walls? Thanks so much.

Well done!

I’ve read that you can get rid of mould with bleach, and that a 10% solution is more effective than neat bleach surprisingly at keeping it from coming back. Might not be suitable on all materials though.

What type of blind is it?

For the textured wallpaper I’d use a sponge squeezed out with warm water and a small squirt of washing up liquid (green Fairy is good, as is Aldi’s version). Dry as you go.

Let us know how you get on. It’s great that you’re making some progress.

Thanks so much for your post. The house looks so much better. Still struggling with few areas- one wall has a big stain on it...I don't know what it is- looks like someone dropped a drink- coffee/ hot chocolate maybe down the wall. I didn't notice- it was hidden by furniture. Think it's probably been like that a while. I've scrubbed it with washing up liquid/ bleach/ cleaning wipes. Still there! Any ideas?

One of my blinds still has mold on it. It's a roller bling. I've tried bleach/ disinfectant- lots of scrubbing.. hasn't made any obvious difference. Any ideas?

Many, many thanks.

It’s great that you’re making progress. Is repainting the wall an option at all? I had a red wine stain I couldn’t shift, and the magic eraser was taking the paint off the wall. Even if you just got a tester and painted a patch over it it might be better than nothing.

I’m not sure what to advise about the mould in the blind.

Waitinginthewings · 24/12/2021 07:31

Thank you. I haven't tried a magic eraser yet. I'll see if I can get one today.

Feel bit nervous about using paint. How do I know it's the exact same shade as the wall? Sorry if that's a stupid question... They are white walls but lots of possible shades,/ types?

I also haven't attempted rubber round bathroom yet. That's a job for after Christmas.

Downstairs looks like a different place. It's almost done. Still lots to do upstairs but I'm getting there

Thanks for your support.

@Orangedaisy

Do you have a British heart foundation furniture shop nearby? I got a next corner sofa there for £50 and it’s comfy enough. While I don’t encourage the kids to trash it, if something is spilled or feet go on it I can’t really bring myself to care. Might be worth it for now until they are a bit bigger?
This. Or I got a beautiful leather ( easy to clean) sofa from ebay really cheap.
