How on earth do you clean an electric oven

It's awkward but possible, to clean the sides and bottom, but how on earth do you clean the top where the electric elements are? Whatever I use seems impossible to wipe off.

Do you actually need to clean up there, won’t any splatters just burn off?

Joonio · 30/11/2021 19:32

For £50 the oven man will do it. I'm waiting till it gets really bad.

It's getting a bit smoky and smelly.

Just wipe it with a soapy cloth, rinse etc.

Ubiquery · 30/11/2021 20:35

Well, I've done my best with hot, soapy water and a razor blade. I can still feel grease above the elements, but haven't found a solution for that yet.

Definitely the Oven Cleaning Man. Was £69 for 2 ovens and separate grill. Amazing!!

SawdustandHay · 03/12/2021 17:20

A roasting tin of boiling water placed on a high shelf might help melt and bring down some grease as a maintenance measure. They should have a slide out metal plate above the element. I don’t know what you’re supposed to do otherwise.

FlipFlops4Me · 05/12/2021 09:13

I phone Luke, the oven man and he comes round and does it. Two hours, absolutely no mess whatsoever and no judgey attitude! Totally worth every penny.

Ubiquery · 05/12/2021 15:52

I wonder how Luke, the oven man, cleans the top of oven and the elements.

OP posts:
SawdustandHay · 05/12/2021 16:17

Has anyone watched? Do Luke and his rivals actually remove the element?

Cottagepieandpeas · 06/12/2021 23:44

My oven cleaning man (not Luke) told me it was impossible to clean the elements. I didn’t really believe him but difficult to argue with someone when you know nothing about it.

He said it would damage the elements.
Result is that I cannot use the grill, although there is no smoking/smell issue when I use the oven.

SawdustandHay · 07/12/2021 10:36

You’d think some sort of steam cleaning device couldn’t possibly damage the element, although I suspect the professionals are using strong chemicals.

purplesequins · 07/12/2021 10:41

wait until it smokes so much that dh will call a company to clean it Wink

FlipFlops4Me · 07/12/2021 12:12

I don't have elements on the hob for Luke to clean - it's one of the sealed top type. They were beyond the blade scraper thingie but he sorted them.

I can't say my grill elements were filthy although the grill pan was a gross-out. Luke got it as clean as a new one!

It just looked like a new cooker, inside and out. It was wonderful and I'll have it done again in the spring.

FrogFairy · 07/12/2021 18:46

Some ovens have a grill element that unclips at the front and swings down so that you clean the top part of the oven. IMO all ovens should have this.

StopGo · 07/12/2021 19:17

I just phone Dave the Oven. He sorts everything out.

Same. £40 for a single oven and it doesn't smell of chemicals Helping local businesses and all that WinkGrin
