Is this a housekeeper or cleaner+ I'm looking for? I'm not sure of the job title.
Also where do I find such a person to come in a couple of times a week.
If you've got this set up, how often do they come, how long for, and what do you pay? employed or self employed?
What do I need to know?

Thanks

It's a housekeeper. My friend does this, she tries to work 3 days a week because thats all she wants to work but she does often go in and do extra if the family need her too. It's quite a big farmhouse she works in and she's self employed and gets £16 an hour, south of birmingham area.

She does mornings or full days - I don't think you'll get anyone to come after school to do this.

Thank you, between school hours would be perfect to make sure we are all out at work, school, college etc.

How do I find one? I've posted a request on care.com website but no response so far.
Are there any others I should look at?

Do you have a local nanny agency? They will recruit housekeepers too.

Or post your own ad on facebook or indeed.

Employed and you'll need to run payroll - you can get a company like nannytax to do that for you.

Not the point of the thread but I would LOVE this! Someone to look after me sounds wonderful…

GranolaHolmes · 28/11/2021 19:57

Grin living the dream.

Thanks, for all the information.

Any Mumsnetters that have this set up?

GranolaHolmes · 28/11/2021 19:58

I would prefer self employed.

My husband has one of these, it's me. You're basically looking for a wife Grin.

GranolaHolmes · 28/11/2021 20:11

That sounds like a very different website though. Smile

I don't need the nanny part though.

Been looking into this recently as this is exactly what I need. Not a cleaner - more than that.

I am going to advertise locally for someone I think.

GranolaHolmes · 28/11/2021 20:34

Let me know how you get on.

@GranolaHolmes

I would prefer self employed.
It’s not based on what you prefer though, it’s based on the job. If you are giving someone set hours and days, paying them a wage and instructing them what to do, they’re an employee. If it’s up to them when they come and they can change your day/hours, they choose their rate, they can send someone else in their place or bring an employee with them (like a self-employed cleaner, gardener etc) then they’re not.

Apart from putting the slow cooker on (and thats only that we don't ask her to, she would) thats what our cleaner/housekeeper does.
We have 2 x 3 hours a week, and in that time she cleans the whole house, tidies up, changes bed, folds laundry, pairs socks, puts washes on and has a rota of deep cleaning things like tidying out and cleaning kitchen cupboards.
We advertised on our local FB group asking for a cleaner/housekeeper stating clearly what we were looking for, had a few people apply, interviewed 3 then took up references for the lady who fitted in with us best

GranolaHolmes · 29/11/2021 09:12

Yes I understand that, which is why I would prefer self employed.

There was a thread on this exact topic a couple of weeks ago but I can't find it for you!

GranolaHolmes · 29/11/2021 09:16

Thank you, CMOT (recognise your name from days of yore)

I will hopefully be securing my new role this week, so once I have that in place I will make serious enquiries.

I am self employed.. Technically a cleaner.. Do similar as you require for 1 lady who has health issues..she is unable to drive so also take her shopping. Do clean also.

GranolaHolmes · 29/11/2021 09:17

I posted a thread myself about how people juggle everything, and the clearest unanimous advice was get a cleaner. Might it have been that?

languagelover96 · 29/11/2021 11:04

A housekeeper.

ThisIsStartingToBoreMe · 29/11/2021 15:33

Consider placing an add in your local village/town magazine.

Also, ask around in the neighbourhood for recommendations. Where I live the good ones only come onto the market when their client dies! They are ususally snapped up.

PinkKecks · 29/11/2021 22:19

I've seen adverts like this, with the heading of "home help" or "mother's helper". Occasionally includes tasks like ferrying the kids to after school activities too.

Redsquirrel5 · 30/11/2021 15:20

Lady housekeeper in our village. Picks up the children from school too now the mum has gone back to work.

AndMatt · 30/11/2021 15:25

Yes, I found "managing" the cleaner harder work than doing the cleaning. I need someone who can work out for themselves what needs doing to keep the house as it should be.
