Dog hairs on sofa

Can anyone recommend something to get dog hairs off the sofa? Something like a small, powerful, hand held device?

Not what you want, but a damp cloth will do it.

I use rubber brush then vacuum the fur pile up on the dog beds so that may do the trick, or rubber glove if have those to hand.
It does depend on fabric and type of dog hair how easy it is to remove, my shorthaired mutt shed loads and it would enmesh into many fabrics while the lurchers fine fur stays on top.

Depends on the fur. If soft and fluffy then a squeegee will work well. If needle-like fur then please let me know when you've found the answer.

This sort of thing, the brooms are also great for floors/rugs and the fur doesn't get all stuck in it like normal bristles.

Miele pet hoover but thats full size.

I put a fleece throw on the sofa and regularly wash and tumble dry that.

Tumble drier great for getting my dogs short hair off things.

Rubber brush to dislodge it, then I use a lint brush to pick it up.

Another vote for a rubber brush and/or the window wiper things (with a rubber blade).

My lab sheds LOADS and these have been a game changer! One sofa is now hers entirely (sigh, it's also the comfiest!) but obviously I still want it to be clean, so I have two or three matching throws on rotation and rubber brush these in between washing. I've added elastic to the corners and pull the throw tight over the cushions as it makes rubber brushing easier!

Forget hand held, they're not powerful enough. I use my upright shark vacuum as if I was vacuuming the carpet, not the attachments.

Thanks so much for all your suggestions. I'm going B&M later for one of those rubber brushes. The hair is manly uirw bristley and get stuck in the weave of the sofa. I put a sheet on the area he loves to sit in, but take it off in the morning as he doesn't go on that much in as it's also the spot that I sit in and he sits in his own bed next to me Smile.

@magicstar1 that looks great! Do you think it would pick up bristley hairs?

Following this!

Also, has anyone any advice/gizmos for cleaning mud off a soap-dodging lurcher's paws, before he gets as far as the sofa 😬

He won't let us wipe his paws with a cloth or towel them off. I don't mind him being a bit grubby, he cleans himself off, but need to get some of the excess dirt off his feet before that.

Upupandiwent · 26/11/2021 12:59

@AnnieJ1985 I know you've said he won't let you wipe his paws, but could you get him used to it slowly by giving him treats as you show your dog the wipes? Hold onto him before he goes running off. Then slowly build up to touching his feet with a wipe while giving him a treat etc? Mine was like this, he's a rescue and was very scared of things. Now I just keep hold of his lead and take him into the kitchen, make him sit, say ' feet' and he gives me his paws to wipe now. I had to hold onto his collar at first to keep him still though. He has a treat ready and waiting for when it's all done.Grin

Thanks @Upupandiwent - you are right, I should stick at it. I've been a bit too soft with him. We only have him a couple of months, and it's only in the last few weeks our garden has turned into something resembling Day 3 at rainy Glastonbury. Our other mutt has smaller paws, so it hasn't been a problem with her, and she quite likes being wiped down as she is a diva

I'll put more effort into it, and keep washing my throws

AnnieJ1985 · 29/11/2021 08:36

@Upupandiwent - thank you for your help on the paws, and allowing me to totally derail your thread. I've spent time over the weekend making him get his paws wiped using bribery and enthusiastic praise, and he's starting to get it. Our other dog wants in on the act, so gets her clean paws wiped for a treat too. I wouldn't say we've cracked it fully, but we're going to stick at it.

@AnieJT1985. That's so lovely to hear! What great progess in a short time, too! Thanks for updating me Smile
