Red stain on bed sheet?

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone knows what this could have been.

On DH’s side of the bed there was a reddish stain. To me it looked like what could happen if you wore a brand new red dyed pair of trousers in bed or something. It was ONLY on the bed sheet not the pillow or duvet cover. Only in the patch where the heaviest part of your body is, like your core.

It came out in the wash fairly easily but has made the bedsheet a bit worn looking despite being new :(

I did think fake tan despite neither of us ever wearing it but surely that would be over more of the sheet and it was far more like red dye had worn onto it rather than brown fake tan.

No clothes he owns are red.

Any ideas? I want to prevent it happening again as it is making things manky.

Seems unlikely to just be sweat?

Blood?

minipie · 18/11/2021 13:41

Any red luggage/overnight bag/rucksack? Red laundry basket ?! Just thinking of things that get put on the bed that aren’t clothes.

DC in red clothes playing in the bed?

idontlikealdi · 18/11/2021 13:43

A red drink, blood?

happinesscherries · 18/11/2021 13:50

nope, it was like dye had rubbed off, not actual liquid.

No children. Only people are me and DH.

It's SO strange.

I've tried uploading a picture from the internet - it is similar but was more noticeable, like a red hue?

Share a pic of the actual stain?

happinesscherries · 18/11/2021 13:55

FWIW I don't think dye had actually rubbed off as there was nothing red in the house. We just don't have anything of that colour. However, i don't know if red could be in any other clothes. It hasn't happened the last few nights or in the years before which is why i'm so confused.

Does fake tan tend to go everywhere or concentrate to one area?

You seem to be asking if your husbands had another woman in the bed!? Why would you assume fake tan if neither of you wear it. Does he wear pjs in bed? It might be a new pair where the colour has run slightly

YouHaveNoAuthorityHereJackie · 18/11/2021 13:58

My serious answer would be, do you have dc? My toddler got hold of my make up bag a few months ago and I couldn’t believe how far she managed to spread the blusher

happinesscherries · 18/11/2021 14:17

i'm wondering more for tan accelerator moisturiser which is in the cupboard but he says he's not used.

I don't think it could have come from another woman unless she wore a red shirt in bed, only slept on his side and had long enough in the 2 hours I wasn't home to get it into the sheets Grin

I once got what I can only describe as a purple "powder" type stain all over my legs, it literally looked like I'd brushed purple eyeshadow all over myself!

It was off a BLACK skirt!

The closest I got to figuring out what it could be was maybe one of those security tags that have powder dye in them had someone gotten all over it in the shop but because the skirt was black I couldn't see it. Once I washed it I never had it happen again.

Greasy man oily back stain Grin

MathsFiend · 18/11/2021 15:39

Not sure if this helps, but my daughter’s lack school bag leached yellow and blue dye over items stored in it. As black is made up of a combination of the 3 primary colours, could it have been from something black?

I'm thinking it must be that. He does sit in bed whenever he is home as opposed to the sofa. So he'd have come in, got in the covers in whatever he was wearing (probably a suit) and scrolled through his phone.

I'm banning outdoor clothes (shouldn't even have to say anything!) and will monitor his sweat levels. It's just SO weird it was like red transfer colour. I don't think sweat goes red, i'd understand yellow.

I wish I took a picture.

good point. it could have been, but I don't remember what he wore.

I think it's like a combination of sweat and clothes in bed. He sits in bed so there was a noticeable looser area in the sheets. Just stews in it. Gross. I am just wanting to avoid it because it makes me feel really grossed out. RED!

Sits in bed in his clothes? I'd be more grossed out by this 😂 So his suit - or whatever he was wearing - is getting poo crumbs, sweat, dribble, toe jam and pubes all over it? Unless of course he showers (immediately) before bed and wears PJs or boxers? But there's also all of your bodily fluids, poo crumbs and pubes...

Imagine the horror of sitting in a meeting and seeing that you've got your OHs pubes sticking out your trousers. And tiny little flakes of poo.

Why doesn't he get undressed?

I guess the red hue is just from a combination of all the different fabrics (and dirt/dust) that's on his outdoor clothes and is rubbing off. So for example if he's commuted and his suit has picked up fibres form train seats, he's transferred them on to the bed sheet.

Obviously he'll have deposited some dust and debris on the train seat too - and so will everyone else that's sat on it. Because he gets in bed IN HIS SUIT he's left sweat, pubes and poo crumbs on the train seat. Imagine the horror if everyone did that?

Basically, what I'm saying is, if we all got in to bed IN OUR CLOTHES, the red hue on YOUR bedsheets is the combination of all the effluent from everyone else's bed who has ever sat on that seat. You've got strangers poo crumbs and bum sweat staining your sheets, maybe even wee, lube, jiz and, urrrgggh, just everything! From STRANGERS!

LTB OP, this is just not on!

HeronLanyon · 26/11/2021 06:41

Feel I may be a mm cliche but I have absolute rule (possibly the only one) no outer clothing on the bed. No clothing which has sat on public transport on the bed. No day clothing in the bed (unless you e been wearing pjs all day for some reason even then I’d change into clean). No socks in bed unless clean bed socks.
Can you tell I once had bed bugs (only saw 2) and the horror and expense of getting rid ? Never again !

I don't know what the fuck you do in bed but most people wouldn't have "poo crumbs and toe jam" on their sheets Confused.

I've definitely had black clothes leave a reddish mark on fabrics before, fake tan or tan accelerator is normally orange/brown not red.

HeronLanyon · 26/11/2021 06:48

I thought grease whether from him or any Bath oil creams etc and the colour of your mattress/ticking ??

Poppins2016 · 26/11/2021 06:49

Do you have pets that are allowed in the bedroom? Could it be something that's transferred off their fur?

Da1sycha1n · 26/11/2021 07:52

@Theresamagicalplace 😂

I do very little except sleep (alone) - this was more of a tongue-in-cheek reply, based on some details I've gleaned from threads on here over the years!! Especially the ones about "how often do you wash/change your bed" and the horror expressed if we confess to anything other than a weekly boil wash!

A bit off topic, but there was a thread a few months ago from someone who's DP had left a SKID MARK in the bed and merrily gone off to work, bed unmade and skid mark on full display. Not for the first time either, apparently 🤢

So, they walk among us 😂
