Is this beyond saving?

Really boring rug alert

I have a gorgeous rug that was rather expensive for the living room.
Ddog is rather old & has wee'd on it, I scrubbed it within an inch of its life but my husband said he could still smell it.

I took the rug outside gave it a thorough was with detergent and treated it and draped it across chairs to drip dry as it is a shaggy rug.

You guessed it, it rained.

Then I went into hospital for a week.

The rug us currently outside rolled up ready for the dump in an old laundry basket.

It's beyond saving Isn't it?

Or can anyone help me save it please?

To be honest I think the rain would of helped I get it out soon possible give it good wash then make space inside for it to dry on tile flooring etc

What's this got to do with sleep?

It can definitely be cleaned, but as it's a rug there's a slight chance it make fade it in parts, but worth the risk if it's for the bin otherwise

You buy a big bottle of Hydrogen Peroxide from the chemist, fill a spray bottle with it & spray liberally over the rug until it's soaked.

Big tub of cleaning grade Bicarbonate of Soda from a hardware shop , sprinkle all over the rug in a thickish layer.

Leave for at least 8 hours/overnight to do its thing & hoover thoroughly. The bicarb draws out the peroxide which brings the wee with it & neutralises any smell. We've done this with both cat pee which is probably smellier than your dog & a bed wetters mattress, both came up like new & smelled like new too

Will it not go mouldy with it being outside? Should I bring it inside to do all this?

Personally I would bring it inside to dry out properly - otherwise proper mould. And then take other posters advice - I would just dry it hoover it - shove Bi Carb over it ( if not visible stains ) & then hoover again - if it smells OK - the other thing is there are pet stain things to take the smell out.

I would not give up on it yet Grin
