Wooden worktops!

We have new wooden worktops. Iroko. They've been sanded, sealed and waxed. But every time even a spot of water gets on them, it leaves white marks. I seem to be able to buff them out but I can still see the outline of them. I'm worried on how to actually wipe them down if they're showing water marks?? What do I do?

Why waxed? Not sure if it's a style preference but our iroko is oiled and doesn't show any marks.

However the area immediately around the sink is quartz not wood so the iroko parts of the kitchen don't need to withstand a great deal of water

That's what the guy who finished and installed them did. I'd asked for osmo oil but he used a wax paste and buffed it into the wood

That's a shame- love mine!

Like bluecow I love mine but I don't have wood round the sink. I also have a high tolerance for patina on wood which since we are keen cooks is needed Grin. But as long as they are oiled regularly they don't colour change with individual stains.

I have wooden worktops and I hate them with a passion. They mark at the slightest thing and they never look nice.

We had the same wood in our old house . You have to be careful never to put a hot pan on them , use a trivet . I made hot drinks on one of those large glass worktop proctectors , and also used one under my drainer.
We used oil on ours , and lightly sanded and re oiled yearly.

I hated wooden counter tops, always always something wrong with them. Replaced it with stone and it is so much better. Wood is not meant for hot, sticky, wet, sharp things.

My dad made me a fire surround out of iroko and it has stained from water damage when I watered some plants. What oil did you use @BlueCowWonders? I've seen an oil called treatex which is a hard wax oil which is meant to seal wood and wondered if anyone has used it?

I've just found the can - it's called Liberonfinishing oil. The builders left it for us in our previous kitchen (2nd one with iroko worktops - we like them!)

I oil the wood annually or sometimes every 2 years

Lovely, thank you. I shall look into that
