Wondering if it is worth repairing my gas cooker, electric oven, 20 years old?

Just that really, I have a cooker which was in the house when I moved in, I think it is about 20 years old. Wondering if it is worth repairing. Can anyone inspire me with their tales of electric ovens which have gone on and on? Grin

When we moved into our current house, it had an old gas cooker. I really liked it, but when we had central heating put in, it was condemned by the CORGI (can't remember what they are now) man, so may be worth getting it checked before repairing. My brother has an electric cooker that is a hot older than twenty years old.

The title is "gas cooker, electric oven" - I assume you mean they are 2 separate items? I've replaced our 20 year old electric oven but the (separate) gas hob is the original.

You'd be surprised what you can get spares for. A 20 year old cooker (if originally a decent model) is probably better than modern rubbish ones. Especially if it's a Cannon.

I agree with @NotMeNoNo: try to google the fault to see what fix you require. Older appliances definitely lasted longer than modern, & with a cooker, having no moving parts, I’d expect a decent life span

My parents are still using the electric oven that was in the house when they moved in in 1988. It still works absolutely fine too. They don't use the oven as much as many people though (usually cook on the hob)

My parents are still using a gas hob and electric oven from the mid 1970s, not sure if they've needed repairs, I think they have to use a lighter for the hob but fine other than that.

We finally replaced our cooker last year. It was 24 years old.

We got it from my mum and dad when it was 10 years old. It just kept going and looked as good as new, as we made sure it was well cleaned.

The only reason we had to replace it was because the catch on the oven door finally died and it wouldn't close properly. I managed to do a couple of fixes on it, but we couldn't get the parts to do a proper repair.

I can guarantee what we have replaced it with won't do 24 years. We've already had a glass panel in one of the oven doors explode.
