Resilient laundry basket?

Inspired by another thread and discovering buymeonce.com for a lot of household things... our laundry basket needs replacing. I've mended the handles with gaffer tape three times now and I need to accept the time has come to replace it. I'm loathe to buy just another plastic tub from a supermarket that will again end up in landfill in five years time.

To be clear, I mean the two handles, tub shaped thing you use to take washed laundry from the washing machine to the line outside, or back upstairs once clean... and not the portal to an alternate universe where dirty laundry goes to wait 2-3 business years for someone to put a wash on, otherwise known as a laundry hamper Grin. Ah, the English language. We also need those but there are some on buymeonce.com so I'm good there.

Ideally, if anyone has had one for more than five years and it's still going strong where did you get it??

Thanks in advance!

You can buy lined wicker ones which can be composted after they break

The flexible ones are pretty robust - I've had one like these (first link I found, I think they're much cheaper elsewhere) www.very.co.uk/wham-flexi-store-laundry-baskets-set-of-2/1600465121.prd for about 4 years and it's as good as new.

I’ve had mine 6 years....looks as good as new....it’s a curver..... sage green.... nice colour and v strong.....they do them in others colours as well.....cheapest place for them is to tkmax, homesense , the range or dunelm type of places

I use a big blue IKEA bag... we have them in the house anyway and they last for years.

bonzo77 · 05/11/2021 10:44

Following. I have flexible tubs from ikea and the handles have broken. I’ve fashioned a repair with tape but it’s not great.

KristinAmandaThomas · 05/11/2021 10:49

I only came along to say the concept of a resilient laundry basket cracked me up. I know exactly what OP means but it’s like other laundry baskets need to beef up and learn coping strategies to boost their resilience Grin

We do this too.

I've got a few of these, they must all be 8+ years old and still going strong
And they squish down when not in use (ha! Imagine!) so can be stashed quite easily

They are on special offer on Ocado quite often as well

I have this from lakeland, 11 years, still going strong, no cracks etc

I think Lakeland have a 'returns forever' policy so if yours breaks you just take it back

I've had a Wham one for over a decade. It's survived several children using it as a Bob sleigh down the stairs, a dry land boat and a tortoise shell as well as the usual laundry activities. I like that it's slightly curved on one side for carrying on the hip.
I've also go a couple of the cheap IKEA ones but they've all cracked a bit.

Momniscient · 05/11/2021 11:11

@KristinAmandaThomas mine probably does need to be emotionally resilient too! Grin

Thanks all for the suggestions so far! I'm veering towards the non-plastic ones - that brabantia one looks great thanks @SW1amp

Keep the suggestions coming!

I've got one of these https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B07CC9VF5S/ref=ppxyoomobbbinactiveshippo2img?ie=UTF8&psc=1 because i didn't want plastic. Looks the same as it did when it arrived 2 years ago

ponkydonkey · 05/11/2021 11:22

I bought one from IKEA and it's lasted very well so far! Also sits just below the washing machine door and doesn't catch when opening

I've got something very similar from Lakeland that is so old I can't remember buying it. I suspect it is older than DS, who is 17. Particularly like that you can carry it in one hand which is better than the wide designs with a handle at each end.

My beige Addis laundry basket is over 40 years old and still going stong. They are still being made.
