Smoke Damage

We've had a fire in two of our bedrooms yesterday, everyone is safe and well thank god and that's all the matters but I really want to crack on and try and get it cleaned up etc as soon as I am able. I wondered if anyone had any tips experience, the smoke damage is extensive more than actual fire damage. The children's clothes are all still in tact but so full of smoke, will a hot wash or two do the job or should I just accept defeat? Tips, product recommendations all gratefully received! Thank you

No experience of it. Sorry this has happened to you.
You could try washing them and leaving them outside for a couple of days but not sure it would work. I would be a bit worried about the children breathing in residue smoke to be honest. I think I would ask the fire service they are there for advice too. We are waiting for one of them to sweep our chimney and we have had advice and a free updated fire alarm from them in the past.
It also might be worth asking a doctor or nurse from a health point of view, thinking about inhalation and lungs. It will be a while until you can live / sleep in the rooms I imagine.
Glad everyone is alright.

It might take several washes.

Went to a bonfire at a friend's house a few years ago and my (wool) coat needed two dry cleans to get rid of the smell.

Glad you are all ok.
Are you putting a claim in to the insurance?

Also wondering if you have contacted your insurance? Did you have the fire service out?

We had a “moderately” bad fire, assessor said ours was a 4/10 (10/10 being only the walls remaining). We were told by the fire service we couldn’t live at home until the damage was repaired…our insurance paid for a rental property. Our insurance company advised us not to try to do any cleaning at all, it could invalidate our insurance. They paid out pretty generously. Took all our soft furnishing that could be washed, replaced what couldn’t (including carpets). You need to be aware that things like TVs can ge impacted. We were told that even if they worked initially they are susceptible to rust quicker so they were all replaced.
We found the Red Cross very helpful when we had our fire. They advised us what to do (our fire was on a Saturday night, couldn’t talk to insurance til the Monday. Hope you get sorted quickly.

Let your insurer deal with it. They should have a professional cleaning service that will salvage what it can.

I would follow the lead of your insurer here, don't you need to wait for them to send an assessor out first anyway?
