What do you use to clean stainless steel, sinks, taps etc?

Our stainless steel kitchen sink is looking a bit grubby, think ‘tea stained’. What products do you use to clean this, sometimes think it needs a bit more than the standard kitchen cleaner spray. Also if it’s a bit whiffy what’s the best thing to do, I’m assuming coming from the plughole.

Also we have a new bathroom so I’m keen to keep the taps, plug & shower sparkly - what’s good for this? I’ve been down the aisle in sainsburys but
so much choice i’d just like some recommendations. Thanks

I'd do first run over with viakal then use method ss cleaner to keep shiny

Key is wiping dry it properly every time. I have phases of having a clean sink.
That's the only way.

I not currently in the phase 😂

For tea stains in the sink, fill the sink with cold water and put a good squirt of bleach in it and leave it for an hour or so. That should also help with the smelly drain when you let the water go.

For limescale Viakal is your friend. But keep it separate from the bleaching.

Bleach

DespairingHomeowner · 24/10/2021 17:26

Whiffs : washing soda & boiling water, or if you don’t have that, salt and boiling water

To keep your new bathroom sparkly - agree that it’s the drying that makes the difference

For your steel sink you need something mildly abrasive - Cif cream, pink stuff, barkeepers friend etc. Or baking soda, or you could use flour (if so Chuck a few kettles of boiling water down afterwards to avoid a gummed up sink!)

stopblowingyournose · 24/10/2021 17:28

Cif and then stainless steel cleaner.

WellThatsATurnipForTheBooks · 24/10/2021 17:29

Viakal here as we're in a very hard water area. It's the only thing that works without too much effort.

Any stains then I use bleach (like someone else said though, don't do at the same time)

piglet81 · 24/10/2021 17:31

Cif/Jif/cream cleaner and a sponge. Bleach down the plug hole, or occasionally soda crystals followed by boiling water.

My housekeeping is definitely not up to MN standards though.

minniemoll · 24/10/2021 17:34

I use Bar Keeper's Friend - the original powery one, it's amazing on stubborn stains on stainless steel, it even gets rust off.

Chunkymenrock · 24/10/2021 17:39

Cif cream on the stainless steel and soda crystals down the plughole with boiling water.

FVFrog · 24/10/2021 17:41

Bicarbonate of soda and white vinegar mixed to a paste

CommonRoom · 24/10/2021 17:42

white vinegar is as good as viakal and is much less toxic and far, far cheaper.

ToffeeNotCoffee · 24/10/2021 17:45

Wipe over with neat bleach. Don't be tempted to scrub. Leave it for an hour then wipe it off. Only scrub using more bleach for stubborn or awkward areas i.e. the plug hole.

Wrt calcium deposits from the water in the bathroom I use K-rock. It comes in a spray format and a gel format. It actually works.

Regarding the drain smell, use Mr. Muscle drain cleaner.

Shiny sinks from Robert Dyas removes limes ale and tea stains and can also be used in bathrooms

caringcarer · 24/10/2021 17:56

Cillit Bang. Makes it shine.

theneverendinglaundry · 24/10/2021 20:16

On my kitchen sink I use the Astonish cream cleaner that has bleach in it.

Bathroom taps are cleaned with Method bathroom cleaner.

You have to dry after cleaning to avoid water marks.

nc87653 · 24/10/2021 20:25

Viakal.

AnitaMani · 24/10/2021 22:05

White vinegar/water mixture

HyphenCobra · 05/11/2021 12:05

OMG nothing ever worked for me and then we got this from screwfix ZEP CALCIUM, LIME & RUST STAIN REMOVER
