Oven cleaning without oven cleaner

I don't like oven cleaner. Evil stuff!
But it shows....the bottom of the oven is burnt on like concrete.
Any ideas of how to deal with this short of a hammer and chisel?

Use Oven Pride slop it in and wipe off
Couldn’t be easier and no fumes

Do it once with oven cleaner then buy a wipeable oven liner for the bottom to prevent you ever having to do it again Grin

A scraper will mean less need for chemicals: www.amazon.co.uk/Ceramic-Cooker-Cleaner-Cleaning-Scraper/dp/B00NFLQP7I/ref=asc_df_B00NFLQP7I/?hvlocphy=1006745&linkCode=df0&hvptwo&psc=1&hvnetw=g&hvadid=232020729251&hvpone&hvlocint&hvpos&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl&hvqmt&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&hvtargid=pla-421546186290&hvrand=5353324443424603325

Cant help with getting it off, but once its clean an oven liner saves a world of hassle!
I had quite a lot of sucess with a dishwasher tablet on the glass door at the weekend (had just roasted vegetables so it was already warm and steamed)

Jng1 · 19/10/2021 14:37

I did mine a couple of weeks ago with the dishwasher tablet dissolved in some hot water then left/ scrubbed in bottom of oven.

Used one of these sort of things www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07ZVB2SH2/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_TWKQD3FZ2CX4BMJQCPFP?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

And a scraper blade as mentioned above.

I put all the metal racks in the dishwasher and they came up lovely - I only had to scrub a few stubborn bits off.

Can someone recommend an oven liner?

Pink stuff is quite good for ovens. Still takes a bit of elbow grease though

InTheLabyrinth · 19/10/2021 16:48

I've only ever used a lakeland liner.

FlipFlops4Me · 20/10/2021 14:04

I got a local oven cleaning man to come and do it because I looked at it and I just knew it was so manky I wouldn't stand a chance. Well worth every penny and I have promised myself that my annual birthday present to me will be getting him back to do it again. He uses the stuff that isn't toxic to the earth but sorts out the cooker.

Brillo pads

BamberGascoine · 23/10/2021 13:43

Be careful with pink stuff as it is an abrasive so can damage surfaces, this can weaken the glass and in the bottom/sides create microscopic grooves which will fill with more dirt.

If its really bad you may have to use an oven cleaner just this on e then stay on top of it using oven liners. Fairy liquid is good as it’s a degreaser

Astonish oven cleaner. Very cheap, thick paste. Excellent results, non toxic, no fumes. I get mine in Savers where it costs about a pound a tub. Can’t recommend it highly enough!

Try making a paste with baking soda and water or vinegar, there are lots of methods to be found online for this. I’ve also got my oven door really clean with just salt and water as the salt acts as a very gentle exfoliate. www.ovenu.co.uk/how-to-clean-your-oven/with-baking-soda/
