Moving appliances

We're moving house soon and I'm trying to work out how to prepare some of the appliances. Washing machine is fairly straightforward as it'll be plumbed in straight away at new house. But dishwasher is going to be stored in garage over winter for several months so I probably need to drain water out of it etc? Is this feasible? There does seem to be a drain cycle in the instructions. Any tips for protecting it from ice or mould?

Never had to move a dishwasher but seems sensible

Something to soak up moisture would be good - those gel sachets that come with trainers etc. They also come with lateral flow tests so worth saving

I came in to say if you are moving your freezer it needs time to settle pre & post move

Thank you. Yes I'm wondering about the freezer as it's a fridge/freezer so going to have to switch off day before and switch to cool box for milk etc I think?
Fortunately we're going into rented and there's already a small fridge/freezer integrated in kitchen which we can use for some bits whilst ours 'settles' - then I can go and bulk buy food!

That’s a great idea - I was able to switch mine off the night before & used a new carton of UHT milk to save bother with cool boxes etc. At this time of year I wouldn’t worry about milk/butter etc getting too hot (not meat obviously)

We stored a dw for over a year. Just drain out as much water as possible, clean all the filters and keep the outlet tube upright (we taped to top).

This is great advice, thank you!

We're not transporting any perishable food with us - got a night in a hotel, then a night with family before actually getting to new house so not worth the hassle of trying to keep it cool.
