Cleaning blackout linings

My local dry cleaners would not accept my (homemade) curtains because the chemicals used would destroy the blackout linings and damage their machine. Because the linings are on a separate rufflette tape I was able to rip them out so at least the curtains themselves will get cleaned. But how do I clean the linings at home? There is all sorts of advice out there when I googled the question but has anyone in real life successfully washed blackout linings? I made the linings with fabric from Dunelm but they are not answering the phone.

Whatever you do, don’t put them in the washing machine on a delicate wash!
I made this mistake with Dunelm blackout linings. It lifted the lining in one patch and ruined them. I thought mine had a dry clean only label on them but could be misremembering, it was a while ago.

The blackout linings listed on their website say:
Professional cleaning in Hydrocarbon or equivalent recommended

But only for the ready made ones, they don’t give any information for bought by length lining but I can’t imagine it’s very different material tbh.

Thank you for your advice. I decided to wash them in the bath in warm water with the liquid wash I use for wool. They have survived this I’m happy to report. Well worth doing - the water was filthy.
Unfortunately I made the other curtains in the house using a single rufflette tape so I will have to unpick and remake them before I get them dry cleaned and wash the linings.

I was about to wash blackout lining in the bath and thought I would just google it first. Very pleased to see your post. I shall be very gentle too.
