Vacuum cleaners - which is best?

Hi,

Which would be better:

A Henry hoover that's incredibly powerful but I struggle to use (mobility issues). Also plus point of this is that it is the one aimed for pet allergies and there was a pet here that I was allergic to, but this is five years ago now so that issue may have gone anyway.

A lighter hoover that isn't as powerful but I use twice as much as it is a lot easier.

It is for cleaning cream carpet, medium pile (just like a normal pile, the kind of carpet you see in new build apartments).

Budget is under £150.
Thank you :)

So basically what I want to know is if how incredibly efficient the Henry is outweighs the frequency of use.

How many people live with you? Any children or pets?

DespairingHomeowner · 11/10/2021 14:26

I’ve heard good things about vax blade - just bought one for around your budget. It’s cordless, light & easy to use

I’ve not had a Henry to compare - but ideally I’d go to curry’s or similar to find a comfortable hoover

DespairingHomeowner · 11/10/2021 14:28

Btw - robot hoovers are about that price (Eufy 30c). You could buy one to use regularly and then supplement by using Henry now & again …

skybluee · 11/10/2021 17:14

I hadn't heard of the vax blade so will look into that, thank you. It looks very light on the pictures.

The cordless ones do look a tonne easier to handle.

The Henry hoover is so powerful and good at cleaning, I've never had a vacuum better tbh, but it is heavy and due to how powerful it is it's quite difficult to move the thing you hold (bit in picture). It looks like it should be light but due to the suction it takes a lot of effort.

I did wonder about the robot ones!

shouldistop - no children or pets, two low maintenance people who don't make much mess.

I’ve had loads of hoovers but I always go back to my faithful hetty, had her about ten years now.

I would do as pp said and get a robot hoover and use Henry every now and again.

OwlBasket · 11/10/2021 18:53

I have a Miele bagless and its fantastic, but that’s as a main hoover. Well, only hoover. TBH in your position with a Henry and cream carpet I’d go for a robot hoover. Unless Henry is on his last legs of course!

I would get the Henry then as it doesn't sound like the hoovering will need done much. I've tried a couple of lighter weight hoovers and they aren't as good. Maybe the other person living with you could hoover if you struggle with it?

Mylifesadrama · 12/10/2021 18:41

I have a Shark for day to day, and my good old faithful Henry for anything more that needs heavy duty (teenagers bedrooms for instance!)

PeeAche · 13/10/2021 15:12

I asked for a Dyson V7 for my birthday, a few years ago. It's shit. It's a glorified floor sweeper. I use it day to day but it's really an offence to the words "vacuum cleaner".

Meanwhile, Henry and I go way back. He outlasted my first marriage. And he's better looking than my first husband too.

gogohm · 13/10/2021 15:21

Henry, they beat all the fancy ones hands down, but get the one with a brush as it's better on carpet (extra I think it's called)

loopylindi · 13/10/2021 15:27

There was a thread a while about vacuum cleaners and generally the Dyson machines didn't come out of it well. I have one (I loved my first one ) but this one is rubbish. It doesn't like picking stuff up, even if you show it and say 'this is a bit fluff, would you like it?' It says no and spits it out. I would be better using a piece of sellotape. I now do need to buy a lighter one and I'm looking at the GTech RAM. Any views people?

OwlBasket · 13/10/2021 16:29

@loopylindi I replaced my 10 year old dyson (which was my 3rd) with a Miele bagless. Was sick of dysons falling over (the new models just make it a feature Hmm ) but a great fan of bagless. The Miele is fantastic, love it.

Loopyloulou007 · 13/10/2021 16:39

There is a little vent thing on the pipe. If the suction is too strong, just open it a bit and won't suck so hard, so will make hoovering easier. Have to do that on some of my carpets as otherwise I would have to have muscles like Arnie Swartzerniger to actual be able to move it. Henry all the way for me. Had disowns and sharks, but it is. Y far the best. I also get the industrial one as the wire is longer, so don't have to keep unplugging it and it reaches everywhere.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 15/10/2021 06:58

I have a Miele, not bagless as I have a dust allergy. It's brilliant, would never have any other vacuum cleaner.

GoodnightGrandma · 15/10/2021 07:00

The cordless ones don’t clean carpets properly. Get yourself an upright.
I get whatever is in my price range.

Indoctro · 16/10/2021 06:16

My robotic hoover has pretty much replaced my shark full time and I never have to do any hoovering

Have you considered a robotic one.?

MiniTheMinx · 16/10/2021 06:37

The Henry flat headed floor cleaner is hard work on carpets and not kind on them either. You can buy a head with a brush for carpets and this makes the Henry much lighter to use. Cheaper than buying another hoover.

GrandmasCat · 16/10/2021 06:40

Avoid dyson hand held ones, they are amazing but fall to pieces very quickly if you use them regularly.

bouncydog · 19/10/2021 06:38

Mum who’s 87 swears by her GTech as do several friends of her age. Lightweight and works brilliantly on her carpets.
