Expectations

Ok ,so I have never had a cleaner before so am not sure about what to expect regarding expectations.
Having a cleaner is a treat to myself and I genuinely respect anyone that is prepared to clean and earn some money.
Today I had a really lovely lady and she has done a fantastic job of the kitchen…kitchen not filthy and but needing TLC . I genuinely thought that she would have cleaned our lounge and conservatory in the three hours she was here .
Again all that was cleaned was the kitchen, splash backs ,surfaces floor
and skirting boards . Our kitchen is very average sized about 3x4 metres .Are my expectations too high? I really want some honest advice.

No your expectations aren’t too high at all. Our cleaner does our entire 4 bed house in 3 hours once a fortnight. Although we do keep on top of it inbetween and it’s always very tidy. Perhaps there was a miscommunication and she thought you only wanted one room done? I would’ve expected fridge, microwave, oven, inside cupboards, hob and extractor fan to be done if someone spent three hours in kitchen.

Thank you for your reply. I genuinely thought that I have too higher expectations. She literally cleaned the skirting, splash back ,surfaces and floor! A great job but absolutely not what I would have expected for £50 …🙄The kitchen is a very average size and wasn’t dirty! Am feeling very disillusioned with my treat to myself! She is coming back tomorrow and I have said what my expectations are ie lounge ,conservatory and hallway. Am paying her another £50 so am hoping for a bit more. 😳

Fridge ,microwave, oven definitely not involved! Kitchen was not filthy and she new what my expectations were ie lounge and conservatory!

Our first cleaner did this. She spent an hour cleaning a sink that wasn't especially dirty; no stains or anything, it was only a year old! We asked the agency to send another cleaner next week and she miraculously cleaned the whole house. No stars for guessing which cleaner we now use every week.

I havnt used an agency..she was recommended by a friend 😳I feel so awkward. Shall see how tomorrow goes! If she hasn’t cleaned lounge ,conservatory and bathroom in three hours I will have to say sorry ! Our house really isn’t filthy ,just a normal home that needed a bit of TLC !

Ah, I find those conversations awkward! Was glad to be able to say "yes please!" when the agency asked if we wanted a different cleaner the following week.
To be fair though, you're paying good money so should be getting what you want.

Anordinarymum · 05/10/2021 00:29

Leave her a note telling her what you want her to do. Make sure she knows what is expected for the £50.

That way there will be no confusion on her part and no buyers remorse on yours

MrsGatsby99 · 05/10/2021 03:21

£50 and just kitchen cleaned and not even all of it? Wow, i am sure she is really nice but to me, that's really too much.
Is it her business or is it less professional than that? Normally, the cleaner/ company does a walk round with the client prior to the job being started, a task sheet is produced and then the cleaner gives a quote. I prefer to pay by the job and that everything is done, rather than by the hour.

Maybe you could do a walk round your home with her and come to an agreement between what she can manage for the time and money.

olidora63 · 05/10/2021 09:25

I did walk her round yesterday and I said I wanted lounge ,conservatory and bathroom done today!! Am going to stay at home this time to see what she is doing. I feel really awful and I really do value any help but cannot afford £50 room !!

£50 for 3 hours is on the high side anyway! I would be very glad to clean someone’s kitchen for £50!!

I think you are being taken advantage of to be honest. 3 hours is definitely long enough to clean an average 3 bedroom home, unless it’s completely filthy. I would not be having this person come back.

Is she new to cleaning?

Your friend that recommended her, what does she manage to get done for then and in what time frame?
