Condenser tumble dryer recommendations

Topsyturvey10 · 03/10/2021 08:48

Can anyone recommend a condenser tumble dryer with a 9/10kg capacity?

It's in a garage so can't do heat pump and there is no option to vent either.

This thread is quite old now so some of the suggestions may be out of date, but if you’re looking for tumble dryers, we’ve recently updated our best tumble dryer page with lots of great options rated by Mumsnet users. We hope you find it useful.

Why can't you do heat pump in a garage? Ours is in an outhouse.

I have just googled and I see why, we haven't had a problem with ours though Grin we bought it before we moved and it used to be inside so it wasn't an issue I had to think about then.
I did a which? Search when we replaced washing machine and tumble dryer after a disastrous purchase of a Samsung and it's always worked well for me.

We got the Beko condenser from AO OP. It was £220 about 2 months ago.

Works well, use it maybe once a week or so (towels mainly). Gets 4-5 large bath sheets “cupboard dry” in about 90 mins.
Lots of settings like stoping when it knows the items are dry, timers, delay start etc

Easy to empty the water tank. Can’t fault it so far

I saw quite a few reviews saying the ambient temperature shouldn't be too cold for them to work properly and our garage is pretty cold in winter. Interesting that you haven't had a problem. Which model do you have?

My current condenser is a Beko and it's been fine but died last week. I'll have a browse at their different models.

We have a John Lewis own brand condenser one has it about 3 years now used daily and no problems. It's a simple one, just turn the dial for the amount of time. Water tank is at the top and easy to empty. Only drawback is it's pretty noisy but we have it in our boot room and close the door so it's not a problem whereas if it was in the kitchen I would find it quite noisy

We have a hot point ariston washing machine & condenser dryer. Bought as a set. Would NOT recommend the dryer! Had it just under a year & it’s the worst appliance I’ve ever bought- it literally doesn’t dry. We’ve had the technician out 3 times and I’ve got to call again next week as not drying again. I’ve seen the inside of the machine and the design is so poor that you cannot unblock the fluff properly and it blocks up very very very easily and stops water leaving being evacuated. Avoid!! I’m tempted to bin it and buy a different machine. Literally hate it!!!! One load of washing I put in the machine yesterday at 9am. It was on for about 2 hours yesterday. It’s still not dry. X

Oh no I didn't know you can't keep heat pump ones in garages! We have a (very draughty) internal garage and I have been looking at heat pump dryer. Will follow this thread now!

I've got a Bosch condenser dryer that's about 8 years old - still going strong.

Timeforwinterclothes · 03/10/2021 09:20

Mine's a Miele. It's so sturdy. Previous driers haven't lasted long, but I've had this ten years and it's like new.

BammBamm · 03/10/2021 09:23

It's a beko one, I'll see if I can see the model number when I go out.
It is a well insulated outhouse with two washing machines and the dryer which seem to be on a lot, so I guess there will be some heat given off from them. Last winter we had the window shut and developed a damp/mould problem so have to leave it open now, so I guess that will make a difference to the temperature in there.

RampantIvy · 03/10/2021 09:25

Bosch here as well. I line dry whenever possible so it only gets used in wet weather and for towels.

MrsPerfect12 · 03/10/2021 20:26

I have a beko. I love it.

NanooCov · 03/10/2021 20:54

Do not get a Hoover one. We've had nothing but bother with ours. Wish I'd got a Bosch (which our last one was) but there were stock issues when we were replacing and couldn't wait the 20 weeks for estimated delivery.

SylvanasWindrunner · 03/10/2021 20:58

We have a Beko one. It's really very good, especially for how cheap it was! I didn't expect too much when I bought it, but we've had it four years now and still going strong!

Sussexbrick · 03/10/2021 21:08

An alternative option is a de-humidifier. I have one to dry my laundry and keep my home dry in winter. It can be moved around the house too.

Dotoallasyouwouldbedoneby · 04/10/2021 01:18

Siemens still going strong after 6 years.

PaulaTrilloe · 04/10/2021 01:29

John Lewis own brand condenser 15 years still going strong
