Washing feather duvet and pillows

As it's getting to the annual summer to winter duvet changeover I was wondering about washing feather/down duvets and then thought about the pillows.

My confession is that I've never ever washed either - change bed linen weekly - but didn't occur to me to wash quilt/pillows. Some pillows are decades old and the quilts are probably five years old. They don't smell, and I've no allergies, pets or small children. I spot clean any stains (mostly tea spillage!) and air the quilt in garden (weather permitting)

Am I completely rank? What do other people do with feather quilts/pillows? Not keen on dry cleaning cos fumes,

I've washed feather pillows. Ruined one by washing on a scorching hot day and trying to dry on line. It just went limp and musty. Have learned the hard way that you have to tumble dry. That seems to work well, though I imagine it shouldn't be done too regularly if you want things to last. I haven't risked the very expensive duvet, have taken that to the dry cleaners instead

Don't, they'll honk worst than the bird they came off. Dry clean only.

Duvets go to the launderette, once a year.

Pillows I wash at home when I know there is a week of hot weather coming, spin dry and then hang outside to dry, turning/plumping every few hours. They need at least four days to dry/air properly.

I only do it in a heat wave. You have to make sure you are shaking them and repositioning them all the time so everything inside gets really dry. And you need to dry them flat.
It’s the only thing I like about really hot weather.

I never wash either. I wash the pillow protectors every time I wash the pillow cases and duvet cover. Have never washed a duvet-my wool one just needs airing.

There’s no launderettes round here, dh has a dust mite allergy so I have duvet protecters that I wash weekly.

Send the duvets to the laundry I have a summer one and a winter one.

Pillows get washed in the summer on a hot day, wash in the machine 40 degree wash 1600 spin then spin again lay them in the sun and finish off in the tumble dryer with the drying balls .

I wash feather duvets and pillows once a year. Then tumble dry take our shake a lot tumble dry again. Put a dry towel and one pillow or one duvet in the dryer at a time and make sure they are bone dry right through. I wash in halo sports wash. They come out like new.
