You can hire a rug doctor from Homebase for about £15 I think and then the shampoo is about £14-£30 depending on how much you need.

nailpolish · 06/12/2007 10:41

i dont want to do it myself tho - want someone to come in and do it iyswim

Oh. Look in the yellow pages and ring for quotes?

It is easy to do though.

nailpolish · 06/12/2007 10:53

yes i could ring round but they dont do quotes over the phone
they like to come round - which makes me uneasy cos its hard to say no when the man is standing there in your house

OP posts:
HollyBerrie · 06/12/2007 15:24

I know you've already said no but the rug Doctor is really good and really easy and a lot cheaper.

nailpolish · 06/12/2007 15:30

i just cant be bothered.

is it big and heavy? how long did it take you?

OP posts:
HollyBerrie · 06/12/2007 15:34

I fetched it from Sainsbury's with 2 children so it can't have been that heavy. It had wheels I think. It was just like slow hoovering to be honest. Moving the furniture was the worst bit.

shorty3 · 06/12/2007 15:36

Just wondering - does anybody know if the rug doctor is better than a vax rapide and how much better?

nailpolish · 06/12/2007 15:41

but the room is massive holly! 24' x 12'

i feel itll take me forever

i have phoned a local company fro an estimate - if its too dear ill go to sainsburys. thanks!

My room is 21" x 13" and it normally takes about four hours.

Sidge · 06/12/2007 15:56

It won't take you that long.

Our lounge is a similar size and it only took DH about 15-20 minutes to do. It's just like a heavy-ish hoover.

Sidge · 06/12/2007 15:57

Four hours???

Blimey. Maybe DH didn't do it right!

HollyBerrie · 06/12/2007 16:05

Sidge, ours is a similar size too and my Dh took the same sort of time as yours.

HollyBerrie · 06/12/2007 16:06

It would have to be football pitch size to take 4 hours!

shorty3 · 06/12/2007 16:09

Must be much better than a vax. Although I have a beige carpet, a toddler and building work which hasn't mixed well so I went over it about four times

nailpolish · 06/12/2007 16:22

does the 4 hrs include drying time?

OP posts:
NotquiteChristmasyet · 06/12/2007 16:25

Ooh, I need to do ours again too. We hired one ages and ages ago - twas like hoover with a pipe and jolly hard work. Was the Sainsbury's one like an upright hoover or a pipe one?

shorty3 · 06/12/2007 17:20

No, 4 hours was for how long it took, but I did have a couple of breaks. The vax doesn't hold much water so needs constant topping up and emptying.

NAB3littlemonkeys · 06/12/2007 17:41

4 hours seems awfully long.

We bought a carpet cleaner from Argos and with the messiest 3 kids in the world (2 of whom are in bed. ,) it was money well spent.
