This is my first post so not sure if I am in the right place.

Genuinely asking if this is a reasonable request so please no trolling.

I work full time and have always taken on all the domestic responsibilities. I am now perimenopausal (ie have absolutely no energy due to hormones/insomnia). My DH works hard and we live a comfortable life due to his income but he does very little about the house (limited to dishwasher/feeds the dogs).

I don’t want to get a divorce because he doesn’t do his share but I’m also sick of doing it all. Even if I wasn’t exhausted quite frankly I’ve had enough. We have a teenage dc so I still have enough school related admin/running about etc;

Having a weekly cleaner doesn’t cover half of it. So would it be reasonable to have someone come in on a daily basis to do the following:

  • laundry (hang out/fold/put away)
  • prepare light supper
  • empty dishwasher
  • wipe over kitchen
  • general tidy
  • sweep floors/ hoover stairs
  • wipe over bathrooms
  • walk dogs
(Basically what I do daily)

Then have a weekly cleaner.

I live in a semi rural location.

Does anyone else have help like this? Is it a reasonable expectation or am I taking the mickey? Genuine question. So please be kind.

I am not looking for tips or advice on my marriage, HRT or how to manage the housework Wink

THANKS 🙏

This is my absolute dream. I don’t think it’s at all unreasonable. If I go back to work full time, or nearly full time, I’m going to seriously consider this.

There’s another thread running on here at the moment about getting a housekeeper - might be worth a look.

I have some health issues and have a lady come in for 3 hrs 3 times a week.

She just does the cleaning tbh as we have young children and I spend 4 hrs a day doing school runs there and back but if I asked her to peel a few spuds or similar I'm sure she wouldn't mind.

She was away two weeks ago and tbh I don't know what if so without her now. I also send out the ironing so she literally does cleaning and that's it.

Agree with above posters that you might be better off outsourcing the ironing and dog walking. Good luck!

I'm not sure what you are asking? If you would like to pay someone to do those jobs for you and can afford it, then what is the issue? Depending on how rurally you are located, it may not be that easy to find someone suitable, but you could always try.

I just wonder whether you really want to employ this daily person AND a weekly cleaner? Couldn't the daily person cover the weekly clean by doing part of it each day? It would be more efficient in terms of people travelling to you, and also clearer who is responsible i.e., the weekly cleaner's job will be much easier if the daily person keeps things fairly clear and tidy which could lead to conflict...

Cleaner here. I would def take on such a customer!!
Some of my current customers need a bit extra. As in sometimes I take a lady shopping.. Change beds. Bit of gardening! Whatever is needed to run her home. She has some mobility issues..
Have been known to bath ddogs. And round up horses!!

If you are the only employer of such a person rather than them having quite a few different families they work for, I don't think they would be eligible to work self employed so you would have to pay via a payroll agency, make NI and maybe pension contributions and pay holiday pay etc.
You could try and emplo someone through an agency though which would do the a I've for you but obviously then it is more expensive.

I have ADD and I have a lady come and help me do a range of things. She is very flexible - some people prefer the variety. Like she will go to the post office or shops for me - I am guessing she prefers a walk to the shops over vaccumming to be honest! She also enjoys gardening so if I have some garden tidy I tell her in advance and she wears something different but is happy in the sun in the garden.
