Is a garment steamer really as good as ironing?

I hate ironing so anything that will make my life easier would be good! Any recommendations?

I use my steamer for lightly creased clothes. IMO, it does not give the same results as ironing but it is very useful.

I haven't got one for that reason - I can't see how it would work for many clothes. For a pair of shorts, sure, but for a business shirt or similar you need the weight of an iron on the material.

I got a Steamery Cirrus as a gift. It looks great but I found it useless. At a push it’s good for ‘refreshing’ slightly creased or rumpled garments.

But for ironing shirts, dresses, tops etc it’s quicker and easier to use an iron. And as poster mentions above anything you need a crisp finish on like business shirts, linen or tailored cotton there’s no point even trying.

Would not recommend.

Anything that needs a crisp finish will mean ironing. For casual clothes, I find tumble drying while damp, then hanging in the airing cupboard works well.

Thanks all - no airing cupboard or need for business shirts here, it’s just me and DD and we mainly wear quite casual clothes. It sounds like a steamer would be a good alternative to ironing but not a replacement.

I wouldn’t use mine for business or for formal clothes but I do find it handy to use for the odd thing that needs a freshen up when I don’t want to take out the ironing board. I have a cheap one (not even sure what brand). It’s worth having around but can’t replace the iron.

Good for silk, or for dresses that have become a bit squashed in the wardrobe, crumpled suits etc.
You need an iron for shirts, and for things like tablecloths, pillow cases etc.

I find mine very disappointing, I hate ironing and was hoping to give it up.

I use it on my casual clothes all of the time. I much prefer it to the faff of ironing. We still have an iron but I don't use it much.

Which ones do you have? Looking for recommendations
