How do you clean your bathroom?

inpixiehollow · 20/09/2021 01:11

My bathroom needs a really good clean from top to bottom. This is a room I always struggle with because I never know what order to clean things in, where to start, what equipment to use (sponge? Cloth? Special cleaning pad???) and how to get it all clean without using 14 different cloths/sponges etc for various surfaces! So interested to know how you all do it? I need some guidance or tips from the more experienced.

The key thing is not to spread germs from the dirty surfaces to the relatively clean ones.

Gather supplies - anti bac cleaning spray, toilet cleaner, glass cleaner, cloths in two colours, old toothbrush, rubbish bag, brush, mop, basket, newspaper.

  1. Open window
  2. Put toiletries etc in basket and set aside.
  3. Spray mirrors and glass with glass cleaner
  4. Spray other surfaces with anti bac cleaner
  5. Put toilet cleaner in loo
  6. Empty bin
  7. Clean mirrors and glass. Buff with newspaper if you like
  8. Clean sink, bath/shower, door handles, light switches.
  9. Clean toilet working from least gross to most gross. Use a different colour cloth (pink for sink/blue for loo)
10. Scrub toilet with brush and flush. Leave brush to drop dry between seat and lid 11. Sweep 12. Mop 13. Replace toiletries. Wipe down with new cloth if necessary.

^ this is v thorough

What I do is:

  • loo cleaner down loo
  • spray bathroom cleaner OR via kal on bath/basin/taps/shower screen
  • sweep (or use dustpan, or hoover)
  • fill mop bucket (I use boiling water usually)
  • then give basin etc a scrub & rinse
  • wipe loo seat with EITHER the ‘finished with’ cloth/scrubber or a separate one - mainly wouldn’t use loo cloth on something else but it’s kind of obvious
  • dry/buff taps & screens so no watermarks
  • mop - either with floor cleaner product in water or just spray tiles with bath cleaner & mop over with wet mop

Bathroom is the quickest room I think, especially if you do it weekly & give basin & loo a minor tidy every few days

Really cleaning would be to also scrub tiles/bath but I rarely need to do that

Ah, I often put the toothbrush holder/tumbler in dishwasher or wash : that gets disgusting

I always start cleaning any room from the top down. So start with the tiles and work my way down from there. In terms of cloths. I have always used the anthea Turner rhyme. Pink for the sink and blue for the loo. I bought tons of these and and put them on the hottest wash after.

Don't worry about a multitude of cleaning items.
Multi surface cleaner, window cleaner for mirrors and loo cleaner will do - unless you have mildew which will need bleach or mildew remover, or limescale which will need limescale remover.
Don't use the loo cleaning stuff on bath or basin.
Work top to bottom.
Use old toothbrushes for around taps, plughole, plugs - any hard to get to places.
Wash bathmats, clean product bottles with a damp cloth, wash up toothbrush stands or mugs.

For a deep clean

I open my window first.
Then I scrub any mouldy bits with bleach and an old tooth brush.
Then I clean down all of the tiles with cif and a sponge.
Then I clean the bath, sink & toilet with cif (separate sponge for toilet). Use bleach inside toilet and scrub with brush if needed.
Then I rinse everything off.
Then I clean the shower screen and mirror with a micro fibre cloth and glass cleaner.
Then I hoover the floor and mop with zo flora. Clean into the edges of the floor with a cloth.

You need a multi purpose bathroom cleaner, Viakal, glass cleaner and toilet bleach.

Move toiletries out of the way

Vacuum everything first. There’s no point smearing around dust and hair. Get out the dust attachment & run it around the sink pedestal, back of the loo, bath panel & window sill. Make sure you get the hair and fluff in the corners of the room.

Spray shower screen & all taps with Viakal, put bleach in loo, and spray bath, sink and vanity with shower cleaner. Give everything bar toilet a good scrub and rinse down, wipe dry.

Spray glass cleaner on mirror and wipe away with newspaper or kitchen roll

Scrub inside of toilet with loo brush and wipe the rest down

Mop floor and you’re done!

  1. Fill bath quarter full and squirt cream cleaner all around edges.
  2. Fill sink quarter full and squirt cream cleaner around edges.
  3. Squirt bleach around toilet bowl.
  4. Use loo brush to scrub toilet, then wipe lid and seat with damp cloth and cleaner.
  5. Pop a cistern block into cistern.
  6. Clean mirror with glass cleaner and microfibre cloth, and wipe window ledge.
  7. Scrub bath with a sponge bathroom scourer, ensure all soap scum removed. I now put the non slip bath mat into the cleaner/water mix, and scrub this with a hand held large floor scrubbing brush, as these sucker type mats get very dirty and need cleaned regularly. The bristles get right into the suckers and remove all soap scum.
  8. Rinse bath with clean water, rinse bath mat, dry off, then polish taps with microfibre cloth. Wipe down tiles.
  9. Scrub sink, then rinse. Polish taps with microfibre cloth. Polish/clean soap dispenser bottles and soap dish.
10. Spray down shower doors with cleaner. Take out pop up waste and set aside. Scrub shower tray with cream cleaner. Rinse all down and polish up glass doors and chrome surrounds with microfibre cloth. 11. Remove and then clean pop up waste - removing hair and soap scum, scrub with brush. Replace pop up waste. Squirt some bleach down drain. 12. Polish shower head and controls. 13. Clean skirting boards, radiator and door handles and towel rail. 14. Replace towels and face cloths. 15. Top up bath salts/oil bottles. 16. Hoover floor and then wash with a wet cloth. 17. Replace fluffy bath mat. 18. Empty and clean out bathroom bin.

Generally only use a few products. Bleach, cream cleaner, cistern blocks, glass cleaner.

Previous posters must be cleaner than me lol

Whenever shower is used squeegee the screen ideally

Once a week (sometimes more often) spray with flash bathroom - sink, bath, including all taps then scrub it in, do low level tiles which need it near sink/bath use now soapy sponge/cloth to do top of loo cistern then back round for a lap of rinsing everything; finally more flash loo seat/hinges etc (then hot wash cloth). Plunge toilet with brush and clean it with bleach or loo cleaner, scrub it in. Mop floor either with a diff cloth or mop (hoover first). Mirrors, any shiny bits with mr muscle green (fresh cloth) use this for everything that doesn’t need a scrubby wash/soggy rinse to be honest (so like window sills, cupboard doors, towel rail). This stage is optional if in a rush - so long as bath/sink/loo are scrubbed that’s the main thing the rest with mr m is just preening
Flush loo.

Less often, clean tiled walls from top to bottom clean shower screen and shower properly with flash. Even less often Viakal/vinegar taps and anywhere else that needs it and soak the loo for an hour or few in harpic black bottle (limescale destroyer)

In old bathroom, (old stained enamel bath) scrub the hell out of the bath with scouring powder/cream cleaner every so often. Use a non stick kitchen scrubby sponge jobby.
