Best cleaning equipment (cordless vac, dustpan/brush, mop) for bad back?

I want to get a cordless vacuum cleaner (a stand up one, not a little one) and also was thinking about a tall brush and dystpan and a steam mop (Is that easier to use than a mop that you have to dip in a bucket of water then squeeze out?).

Any recommendations please! Vacuum cleaner is the top priority really. Smile

Eubanks are great

CatNamedEaster · 18/09/2021 08:25

I can't find anything when I Google that apart from the boxer! Is it that spelling?

I wonder if it’s an autocorrect. The PP might have meant an Eufy robot vac. I have one and it’s fantastic for bad backs. It’s automatic so you don’t need to get involved at all. All Eufy needs is his litter tray emptied every so often.

cherrytree63 · 18/09/2021 08:38

I think @Nitgel means a Ewbank carpet sweeper.

CatNamedEaster · 18/09/2021 11:39

Thanks! I did read quite a few recommendations for that Eufy robot vac on the game changers thread so I'll have a look at that.

Anyone got a steam mop and think it's worth it/less work than a normal mop?

I had a steam mop but found it heavy to use( I'm disabled) and I found the results not worth it for the effort involved!
I replaced it with a £20 Flash Powermop which is perfect for me
I guess it's not great for the environment as it uses disposable pads... but I do my part in otherwise and my conscience is clear

CatNamedEaster · 18/09/2021 20:20

Thanks for that, I did wonder if a steam mop was worth it anyway but hadn't thought about the weight of it. I think I'll stick to the normal mop but get a long brush with pan so the actual sweeping is easier than crouching my way round the kickboards in the kitchen.Grin

Agree with this. It should also keep dust down so other jobs will be less work

I dont like steam mops - they break. I like vileda washable mop heads, but I think any modern mop (ie not string head) is probably fine

CatNamedEaster · 18/09/2021 21:42

That's a good point. At the moment I'm lucky if every room gets hovered once a month week so A) that's time for loads of crap accumulating and not being tidied and B) there's always this feeling of the air being a bit dusty. There seem to be quite a few offers on the Eufy so I'm going to look at ordering one tomorrow. I can barely lift our hoover, and DH has a bad back too, so we need to start using things that make life easier instead of hauling things around that are literally a pain!Smile

I live in a tiny flat and my Dyson V7( bought an ex display one) i makes vacuuming literally painless and quick, but if I had a houseful I'd love a Eufy

I have a Dyson cordless, since I got it I haven’t needed to use a dustpan and brush - I just wack out the vac and give the tiles a good vacuuming before mopping. I read once that on a tiles or wooden floor, sweeping or mopping just pushes the dirt into the grout or joins. You should always vac along the joints before mopping. I use a hand held spray mop with a washable pad along the bottom. I have very weak wrists and couldn’t use the corded vacuum any longer, so would highly recommend the hand held dyson.
Popitdontstopit · 19/09/2021 10:34

I have a gtech which I love, unlike some of the cordless ones the weight is all in the bottom (some have a large "handle" part I think I is a detachable vacuum possibly) which makes it easy to manoeuvre.
I have a daewoo handheld which I large but it has a strap so I wear it across my shoulder like a bag and then it has a hose bit - use this for the stairs mostly.

Fluffycloudland77 · 19/09/2021 11:30

You can get robo vacuums that mop too.

DespairingHomeowner · 19/09/2021 12:31

There are dustpans with a handle (so you don’t have to bend) … I’ve seen at Lakelandi think

A cordless vac is also v handy for this … you don’t have to get so close to the floor

Nitgel · 19/09/2021 14:02

Sorry I meant a Ewbank in place of dust pan and brush as they're very efficient and useful:)

Chasingsquirrels · 19/09/2021 18:05

I have a robovac & a separate robomop.
I liked my steam mop, but don't think it's been out of the cupboard since I got the robomop.

CatNamedEaster · 19/09/2021 22:01

Thanks all, lots more for me to investigate. Love the idea of the one with a shoulder strap, I'm imagining looking like a Ghostbuster. Grin
