Le Creuset - Worth it?

Just wondering if it is worth investing in some Le Creuset items or if they aren’t worth it.

I’ve hankered after a Le Creuset casserole dish for years and recently watching more cooking shows and they all seem to use Le Creuset.

I love mine. Food tastes glorious! It is heavy though, it's true.
It's built to last. In fact, it will outlive me... outlive all of us... survive nuclear winters. I may as well just use it as my urn.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 13/09/2021 18:13

I inherited my late MIL fabulous orange le cruset so that must be 50+ years going and I use every day-especially dutch oven and two handled flat pan.
I agree heavy but the heavy bottom is ideal for cooking. I love them.

Also have acquired others and they are 30 years and going, love the casserole dishes.

Two of my DC bought from TKMaxx for Uni-will last a lifetime I expect!!

Tangledtresses · 13/09/2021 18:15

I inherited mine from my mum so it's very old! Still going strong

I have the casserole and the flatter braising one
As well as some lovely gratin dishes.

I have bought the non stick frying pan with lid which is great too.

I bought a fondue set from car boot and the saucepan makes the best cheese sauce ever 😀😀

Tangledtresses · 13/09/2021 18:18

For all those ones that are blackened on the inside or out
Quick scrub with a stainless steel pad works wonders 😀

Scarby9 · 13/09/2021 18:19

You can bake in them too.
Google Dùtch oven bread or cake.

Defender90 · 13/09/2021 18:21

Just got one for my 40th, I love it. Use it at least four times a week. Currently doing tonight's bolognese in it.

It is heavy though.

Ninkanink · 13/09/2021 18:22

Oh yes we’ve used ours as a baking cloche for sourdough bread.

AdoraBell · 13/09/2021 18:27

I love their things. I know they are expensive but they last. Had 2 casserole pots for 20 years. I bought another casserole pot, shallow, and I use it for roasting things and also for things like chilli etc on the job.

BrilloPaddy · 13/09/2021 18:33

I've got a volcanic orange set of saucepans; a small casserole and a large round casserole too. Absolutely adore them and they're used daily. The saucepan set is around 27/28 years old and still looks like new. I hand wash though.

DH bought me a new shallow casserole for my birthday after a lot of begging....... it's teal, was £250 and I've taken massive amounts of pleasure in using it. In fact, my veggie sausage casserole came out of it tonight. They really are worth every penny.

Fruitinator · 13/09/2021 18:39

Just to reiterate what other posters have said. I think that they are worth it.

I have a bit of a collection, and they are brill. My large one as a Dutch oven for sour dough, a whole chicken or mass catering. Small one for just the 2 of us. Grill pan for the best steaks.

The non stick frying pan and wok still look pristine and are used all the time. Not so keen on the crockery, they are very easily chipped- Denby is more robust. Sainsbury's 'collection' baking trays are fantastic, 10 year guarantee and as good as Le Creuset ones any day.

If you keep your eye out you can pick them up on offer or at TK Maxx. Both Bister and Cheshire Oaks have outlet stores too- they put the offers on line.

Svalberg · 13/09/2021 18:40

I have a medium and a large casserole dish, bought in a French supermarket about 35 years ago for a fraction of the price they were in the UK. Best purchase I ever made. I exploded the handle of one in a too hot oven and Le Creuset sent me another knob, free, when I asked where I could get one.

Lealu · 13/09/2021 18:47

Yes worth it! We got most of ours from TK max. Lasted 10years so far an am expecting few more decades! Doesn't match perfectly but not fussed by that. The casserole dish is a little heavy, as others have said, but I think that's what makes an excellent quality casserole dish- my grandmother's was the same. The non stick pans are a complete game changer. I have not had to scrub a single sauce pan since switching to these and I will never go back!!! 🤣

Astella22 · 13/09/2021 18:48

They are expensive but I think they are worth it. I have a casserole dish ans their frying pan and I love both.

catsareme14 · 13/09/2021 18:49

Way too heavy , I hate mine . Also handles heat up .

Fruitinator · 13/09/2021 18:53

I mean Bicester Village - my typos are getting worse!

weegiemum · 13/09/2021 19:24

We had le Creuset pots as a wedding present and we've been married 27 years. The casseroles are the best but about 4 years ago my large one split after I dropped it on slate tiles. Tiles survived, casserole started leaking.

Replaced it with a big cast iron pot from Tesco (Think the range is Go Cook) in the same bright red and was only £40. We also bought the orange paella dish at the same time and both are used very regularly. Every bit as good as the original (and every bit as heavy!).

Ninkanink · 13/09/2021 19:35

Yes that is the only weakness - cast iron is extremely brittle and susceptible to fractures or shattering all together.

woodhill · 13/09/2021 19:37

Had mine for 30 years'. Love them

Inthemuckheap · 13/09/2021 19:39

Personally yes. I got a set of saucepans when we got married 30+ years ago and they're still going strong. I also have various casserole, oven dishes.
Yes they're heavy but luckily I am strong (they're a hell of a lighter than a hay bale!)

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 13/09/2021 22:14

I inherited a large LC casserole from my MiL. It was so heavy I rarely used it - it ended up in a charity shop. TBH I’d never buy any LC - it’s ludicrously expensive, besides weighing a ton.

Notcontent · 13/09/2021 23:07

I love my casserole dish and it’s fabulous for induction cooking. But I would not buy a whole set as I prefer stainless steel for things like boiling water for pasta.

PlasticDinosaur · 13/09/2021 23:15

I've got a cast iron casserole which is nice but heavy. Doesn't get much use in our house because I do alot of hot and fast rather than low and slow. However I also have their non stick range which have made such a difference to my cooking. I can never go back.

Dearreader · 14/09/2021 00:04

I have similar made by Denny. It’s amazing and I swear that everything just tastes better when cooked in it. Very very heavy as it is a large one.

Dearreader · 14/09/2021 00:04

Denby I mean

DramaAlpaca · 14/09/2021 00:06

I have two in different sizes, they are very old and I love them. However, I also have a couple from Aldi and they are honestly just as good.
