Weekly cleaning routine by task rather than room?

Does anyone follow a weekly cleaning routine by task (eg Monday - dust, Tuesday hoover etc)? If so, can you please share your routine? The organised mum method is by room and I think once I’ve got the mop (or whatever) out, I would rather just use that throughout the house. But would really appreciate a ready made routine.

I think routines only work if you do the same things most days or your life looks the same through the week i.e Monday's follow the same pattern.

Could you try directing an hour or two a day to whatever jobs are most in need of doing?

Most frequent jobs are room-specific, I think. Eg kitchen jobs and bathroom jobs. Everywhere needs dusting and vacuuming but it may be more or less than once a week, depending on size and occupation density, and where you spend most time. Try googling task-based cleaning system but exactly what you want may not exist.

Does anyone follow a weekly cleaning routine No, sorry Grin

When somewhere needs hoovering, we do either all of the house or all of that floor or just the room depending on what we feel like.

What you are suggesting is fine, don't overthink it, clean however you want. All this Hinch crap and cleaning 'systems' is bonkers, the aim is to do the minimum cleaning as quickly as possible, using minimal brain space, so you can get on with life.

Could you try directing an hour or two a day TWO HOURS A DAY? Just, no.

Years ago I did
Mon change beds and tidy
Tuesday dusting and cleaning mirrors and windows
Wednesday hoovering
Thursday mopping
Friday kitchens and bathrooms
Saturday laundry

(I worked a half day Tuesday and Friday which is why they had bigger jobs on)

Having a day for laundry didn’t work as soon as there were more than two of us! Unless I spent all day doing it.

I find cleaning by room much easier although I do mop everywhere in one go.

Hi OP, Clean Mama has a system like that. I haven't tried it so no opinion about it!

I do this for the weekly jobs. I work Mon to Fri. Dcs are in team sports so I don't have a lot of time in the eves. I just do dinner, bags, tidying, maybe a wash in the eves. I hoover the house at the weekend and downstairs mid week. I mop the kitchen on Sat. I wash bathroom floors, sinks, toilets once a week, all at once. I damp dust sitting room TV and mantle once a week. I clear out papers, misplaced items out of the rooms every day or two.

I wash outside windows a few times a year. I aim to deep clean kitchen and all rooms for Spring and Christmas. I declutter with clothes etc for Easter and Autumn.

I am tidy and wipe out fridge etc as I see it. I find with this method, I forget about lampshades, behind rads. Since last week, I am deep cleaning a room a week, skirting, lights, windows. I will have gone round the house after 8 weeks or possibly 10, allowing for skipping an odd week.

I think TOMM is for people who are at home or at least have a good chunk of time at home every day. I find it time consuming hoovering just one room. At least with the deep cleaning, I have the wet cloth in my hand and can do windows, skirting, rads.

I try to concentrate on the surfaces one day, then the floors the next day and repeat. I just clear any clutter and clean underneath. Obviously there are other things to do but I just do them as I notice they need doing and try not to overthink it.
If I’m emptying bins, I do the whole house same with cleaning windows/ dusting etc.
I’ve tried the TOMM method but some days are really busy for me and others I have loads of time, so now I tend to just do what I can when I can.

I wrote my own list. (I think it’s much better to set it all out yourself rather than follow someone else’s as you know your own house better.)

I basically do a general pick up tidy, dishwasher/sink, laundry, bathroom very day. And then Mon-Fri I have specific jobs. (Like you say; mopping is easier to just get done while you already have the mop out so out mopping for eg Wednesday or whenever.)

It does make life easier and means I spend much less time cleaning overall.
