Do you have a spare room?

Just that really.. due DC2 soon which means we won't have a spare room. I feel really short on space now as we had an ottoman bed in there, my dressing table and all sorts which has now had to be condensed into our bedroom. All my make up which has gone from being drawers full is now just a box tucked in my wardrobe and all the coats etc that were under spare bed have been given away Sad

Nope - and we need more space

satci · 21/08/2021 17:23

I miss mine massively since having kids. We used to have 3 spares. Dressing table and wardrobes in one, shoes in another, office in another. Bloody kids.

Anotherinternetmum · 21/08/2021 17:23

Fortunately we have spare rooms for guests to stay, our children have shared previously though

Kendodd · 21/08/2021 17:24

Maybe you shouldn't have had another baby if it meant you wouldn't have anywhere to keep your makeup.

Wale90 · 21/08/2021 17:26

I'm sure the OP I aware of the privilege of having a baby @Kendodd

That doesn't mean you can't lament the changes at times as well.

BeyondMyWits · 21/08/2021 17:29

Whilst the kids are at uni, we have bedrooms with no-one in them. Not spare exactly... but at Christmas, the kids squeeze in together... zed bed etc so their gran can have a proper bed to stay over a few days... so we have "flexible" rooms, if not spare...

Superstar22 · 21/08/2021 17:32

Yes we are very lucky. Children have a room each and we have two spares- one is an study one is properly spare. When they were little they shared though snd it worked out brilliantly until they were 7 ish. Even though we had spare rooms

HereticFanjo · 21/08/2021 19:53

Yes but it's become a bit of a dumping ground during pandemic as no one was staying for ages!

junebirthdaygirl · 21/08/2021 19:54

Won't baby be in with you for a few months and then later they could share so maybe move nothing yet. I think it's nice for them to share when they are little.

I love this reply Grin

I've often thought that sending a child back would have freed up a lot more space.

Anyway, no, we didn't have a spare room. What we had was one child in a bigger room on the understanding that he was the one to move out when grandparents/friends came to stay.

Crowsaregreat · 21/08/2021 20:09

Lols no, 2 adults 2 kids 2 bedroom house. Why don't you keep the spare room and get kids to share?

Bufffy · 21/08/2021 20:13

Nope. I’m just ruthless with stuff now it’s been quite good. Nice capsule wardrobe for each season and the out of season clothes are in those vacuum storage bags

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 21/08/2021 20:14

No spare room. Or ensuites. Or studies.

Just a normal semi detached 3 bed house.

Before we moved, my neighbour was moaned about the size of her dressing room... then realised that most of used the same room as a children's bedroom. My DD had a small double, a desk, drawers and book case in there, so they weren't exactly tiny rooms.

PurBal · 21/08/2021 20:18

No. 3 bed, 1 DC and DH WFH. All are big enough for double beds. DC room has a double up all the time and study has a futon.

PurBal · 21/08/2021 20:21

@Aroundtheworldin80moves my mums neighbour did a loft conversion because the “single” bedroom was too small for her daughter. My mum has a double bed in the so called “single”.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 21/08/2021 20:24

No, but then I wear minimal makeup

Rainallnight · 21/08/2021 20:26

Can’t the DC share?

MadMadMadamMim · 21/08/2021 20:26

Yes, we have. But only because three of our kids have now left home!

Thinking about downsizing when they've all gone, but for now we're enjoying the luxury of space - and they do return fairly often to crash in their old bedrooms.

RampantIvy · 21/08/2021 20:26

Yes. We needed a spare room because we don't live near family and want to accommodate them when they come to stay. Also, our friends are quite scattered, and the only way to see them is if they stay with us or we stay with them.

It also means that DD's university friends can come and stay.

RampantIvy · 21/08/2021 20:27

Oh, and lastly, it means that I have a dedicated office space to WFH instead of sitting at the dining room table.

Mantlemoose · 21/08/2021 20:27

Yes, and it's a junk room so would be happy if it actually had a use.

RampantIvy · 21/08/2021 20:30

Just thought of another good use. Before DH got a CPAP machine it meant that I had somewhere to escape to in order to get a good night's sleep due to his extremely loud snoring.

captainpillows · 21/08/2021 20:34

I'm very lucky to have 2 spares, one is a guest bedroom, made up but no one has ever actually slept in there (I consider when DH is snoring like a generator) and one smaller room with a sofa and bookcases, which I like to call "the library"
I'm nowhere near posh enough to have a library, but it does have books in it 😂

RampantIvy · 21/08/2021 20:39

We also have two, but one is now my office.

bloodywhitecat · 21/08/2021 20:43

We do, we have fosterling 1 in his own room, fosterling 2 in with us and a spare room that allows us to have family stay or to be able to offer respite to another family
