Help with wash/care symbols please

I've just bought a pillow and there's 2 symbols on the care label which I'm not too sure about. The first is a square with a circle inside which I'm assuming is a symbol to say it's ok to tumble dry although I may be totally wrong.
The 2nd is a circle with a cross through it and I have no idea at all.

Please can someone enlighten me.

Thanks.

Yup - looks like the square with the circle is OK to tumble dry, and the circle with cross is do not dry clean - here.

Excellent-thanks very much.I don't feel so embarrassed now.

The tumble dry one according to that link says to tumble dry with no heat.Sorry if it's obvious but how do I manage that? My tumble drier only has 2 settings-low and high

Sorry - no idea - don't have a tumble drier. Maybe just on the lowest setting? You'd think it would be a bit pointless doing it with no heat - might as well just hang it up somewhere.

Bubbaloo · 30/11/2007 12:31

Exactly,that's what I thought.

I suppose a low heat wouldn't hurt.Anyway...I've only just bought it,so won't have to worry about washing and drying it just yet.

No dots mean you can just tumble it, there is no heat restrictions as far as I know.

www.consumereducation.org.uk/shopping/english/labelling/03.htm shows it and just say ok to tumble dry.

www.espares.co.uk/guides/washing-machines/a/249/drying-label-symbols.html

that one clarifies, apparently a black circle in a square means cold tumble. Although I have not come across a tumble drier that HAD a cold setting, maybe newer ones do??? Can't see the point in a cold setting really.

JackieNo · 30/11/2007 12:37

Ah - I see - 'no heat' means no particular heat - just that it can be tumble dried! Not 'don't use any heat at all'.

JackieNo · 30/11/2007 12:39

Oh - x post - now I'm confused again. This says it's 'may be tumble dried'. Oh dear - sorry - causing you more confusion, bubbaloo.

JackieNo · 30/11/2007 12:40

This says 'may be tumble dried - no restrictions'.

Well tbh,I've never washed a pillow before-I normally just throw them out and buy new,but ds1 was ill the other day and his pillow was ruined(sorry if tmi).I thought I'd try washing it in the machine, but being a cheapy pillow it went all lumpy and I ended up throwing it away. He's been using one of ours for the last few days which hasn't been flat enough,so I bought him a nice new one from Mothercare this morning...which is just as fat as our pillows!
Hopefully now he's better,I won't have to wash it for a while, but if I do I'll just stick it in the tumble drier afterwards and see what happens.
