Best platforms for giving stuff away free?

I've been lurking for a while on the minimalism & decluttering threads. Happily (/obsessively) clearing things out.
But deciding to get rid of something is one thing... actually getting it out of the house is another, assuming you want to avoid landfill as much as possible.
What are your favourite methods & platforms for giving stuff away? Which do you use, and for what sort of things?
ie
Charity shop
Clothes bins
Gumtree
Olio
Facebook marketplace
Freecycle
Etc

Everything that is possible to sell, I sell on eBay, bundling items together if they're not worth much individually. Once in a while I'll do a car boot. I don't feel I could justify giving items away when money is needed for other things. For non saleable items I use Freecycle which works really well in our area.

Thanks. Might try freecycle. I eBay bundles of things too, but I'm thinking of some things are just not economical to post. Or stuff I've put up on Gumtree for £5 but no one wanted.

I’m on a local Facebook share group. People can post if they need an item or if they want to get rid of something.

I second finding a local facebook freebies/reuse page. I've rehomed a whole manner of things and have also been a beneficiary too. It seems to attract far fewer timewasters than marketplace itself

We have a neighbourhood WhatsApp group and there are always a good few takers whenever something is offered.

I find olio good for food items. I'm going on holiday and had leftover eggs and yoghurt - someone has just picked them up!

Free cycle

I only give to the charity shop things I think they'll actually be able to sell so there's lots of other stuff. My other options are:

Ebay if it's worth it;
Things priced cheaply on local FB sites which I mark for free after a few days;
Free bundles of clothes on Freecycle/FB groups;
Most other things on Freecycle;
Other/torn clothes into rag recycling.

Didn't know about the Olio app ............ will have a look!

Clothes in the clothing bank.

Most other stuff I offer on the local Facebook free group, if I get let down by 3 people or it goes a week without being wanted, then charity shop.

Plus our tip is actually really good at recycling electricals etc so worth a scout at what they will take.

I don't sell - feels like too much hassle for E.g. £2 as often the stuff isn't in great condition

rhubarb84 · 15/08/2021 11:09

Yep, I'm coming round to doing something similar. Offer things on Olio / Gumtree / Facebook or whatever, but only for a week. After that it's charity shop or recycling.

I haven’t had much luck selling stuff so I tend to either charity shop items (now the shops are open and taking donations) or Freecycle/Freegle them. I’ve met some lovely people this way, and have had some good things from Freecyclers,, too.

FeedingFrenzy5 · 19/08/2021 22:07

I have had better luck selling things, often at very low prices, than giving away for free. When I've put things on Gumtree/freecycle for free I've had loads of no-shows and generally being messed about, so now I prefer to either sell or take to the charity shop. Haven't tried it yet but my sister told me about a website called Thrift+ where you can buy second hand clothes and also send off bags of your own unwanted clothes for credits. I agree though op, actually getting rid of the stuff is the hardest part of decluttering!

TwoLeftElbows · 21/08/2021 01:22

I struggle with Freecycle and facebay these days. People mess you round so much. I've had the best luck selling stuff on eBay for very small amounts, collection only. You don't make much after fees but it tends to attract more motivated and reliable buyers.
