We've got them too! And so have all my local friends. Apparently they're carpet beetles, and they like old houses. I wasn't too bothered until I found about 7 all at the same time on ds1's rug. Yuk. Where do you live nicky?

I don't know how you get rid of them - I wasn't too bothered but I don't like the caterpillary things - I just squash on sight.

carpet beetles. They eat carpets and woollens, although the ones we have don't seem to care as long as its clothes they eat. I don't know what shifts them but i squash on site

ive got these to i keep finding them all over our house, it started of in the kitchen now there everywhere ive also seen little tiny ones around here too, so they must be breeding some where wonder hows best to distroy them all.

I live in an old house too. I got rid of mine by vacuuming constantly and putting down ant powder behind sofa, tv etc (anywhere kids can't get) for a few days and then vacuuming that up as well.

The little hairy caterpillars turn into the brown beetles apparently so you would need to make sure all of them are gone so they don't keep breeding!

Right, you need an insecticide containing Permethrin - ant killer seems to do it.

YOu need to find the source of the infestation - an old sofa? Or on old rug? they particularly like fur, feathers and wool.

But you need to OBLITERATE them with the insecticide, then hoover DAILY, everywhere you have ever seen even one, because the larvae (the spiky caterpiller things) move fast, and the beetles can fly I think. They breed fast too.

Look under all your furniture, wash as much fabric in your house as you can (curtains, covers, ALL clothes) and give drawers a good wet clean out.

I feel sorry for you, they are very hard to shift. I had them last year, and had to throw a sofa away (which, having bought it second hand and it being stuffed with feathers, I assume was the original source of infestation)
