That's it really .
I need to buy an iron.
I do not iron !
Hate it with a passion . The iron that I have ( but can't find !) was an old one of my mums .
Went on Amazon to get one ...omg there are loads !!!

How do I decide ?

Thanks .

So many choices now, I don’t like the cordless ones with the big separate water tank as I find them to light, I like a heavy steam corded steam iron, I have a Phillips one which has lasted well & does the job was about forty pounds I think, I’m one of those weirdos who doesn’t mind ironing.

Decide how much you want to spend. £15 cheaper to silly prices. Job done!

MrsWooster · 05/08/2021 17:09

If you’re genuinely not an uriner and only need it for very occasional special bits, just get one from a charity shop or something for a tenner from Asda. if it’s just for wundaweb hems etc, use hair straighteners and never let an iron darken your door

MrsWooster · 05/08/2021 17:10

Ironer! I don’t want to know anything about your urinary habits!

Thanks all .
Does the heavines/ weight of the iron make it easier to iron ?
As in ..the heavier the iron..the quicker the creases will get done ?

I have an old one left behind by a lodger. It's about 20 yrs old. Does the job.

I don't iron much.

I never put water in the iron. I use a damp muslin instead.

I'd probably spend about £20 on a new one and go for a brand like Moulinex

WhoppingBigBackside · 05/08/2021 18:54

A damp cloth and a hot iron will get rid of creases. Ironing clothes not quite dry is easier than ones that are bone dry.

Steam generators are the way to go - they won’t make you love ironing, but they will definitely make it more tolerable. Philips PerfectCare steam generators are fantastic. It has one temperature setting mes img nothing gets burned, but oodles of steam - linen and denim are like ironing silk.

Bjarnum · 05/08/2021 21:38

We bought a Beldray cordless. Don't know if we just got a duff one but it is useless - not enough heat to do more than half a shirt at a time! It's going back ...

thelegohooverer · 14/08/2021 10:50

Buy one in the Aldi specials - it will be decent quality for the price point.

There’s no point paying more unless you pay a LOT more. I have a Tefal steam generator, with the separate water tank. It is very light to hold, glides over clothes and irons brilliantly. The creases just fall out - no going over and over things.

But it cost a ridiculous amount. Worth every penny imo but hard to justify unless you iron at least occasionally.

LadyEloise1 · 14/08/2021 19:35

Do not buy a Bosch Serie 12.
It's a steam generator one
Very awkward to use.
Because of the flex it doesn't " sit" by itself but must be returned to its cradle in the steam generator thingy.
Really poor design.
Designed by someone who doesn't iron !🙄

mommybear1 · 15/08/2021 16:09

@LadyEloise1 phew I'm just eyeing up the Bosch serie 6 and was almost swayed to that model! Thank you

I have this iron too.

It was recommended by JL staff and I was a bit skeptical but it really does the job and has cutting my ironing time in half. :)

I have a Rowenta brand since 2006. I have dropped it three times and it is still working.

silentpool · 22/08/2021 03:25

I have a Polti Vaporella. It's a steam generator iron, which makes incredibly short work of ironing. I'm not a keen ironed but this makes it bearable.

DramaAlpaca · 22/08/2021 03:31

OP has probably bought an iron by now. If not, my three criteria are a decent power output for plenty of heat, light in weight, and a long cord. Oh, and it goes without saying it has to be a steam iron as anything else is useless. I detest ironing but these things make it easier.

Standrewsschool · 22/08/2021 03:35

I find I have to pick them up before buying. I don’t like heavy irons

sasparilla1 · 22/08/2021 11:24

I hate ironing, but it's also one of those things that I have to do!

I've had a Tefal steam generator for the past few years and they're just brilliant. I couldn't go back to a normal iron. But is the price of a steam generator worth it if you don't do much ironing?

OiPanda · 22/08/2021 11:25

I go to argos then pick one thats on offer.
