Getting olive oil out of blouse?

colouringindoors · 02/08/2021 17:16

Hi there

So I went for delicious tapas with friends last Friday and spilt olive oil down my front 🙄

I was wearing a good quality viscose (looks like silk) blouse.

Is there any way i can get the oil out? Blouse is sadly unwearable as is Sad

thank you!

I'd just put it in the washing machine with everything else and a good dose of biological washing powder.

dementedpixie · 02/08/2021 17:18

Is it machine washable?
Rub washing up liquid into the stain before washing

MrsPnut · 02/08/2021 17:19

Washing up liquid worked into the stain before washing again.

Lucked · 02/08/2021 17:19

Have you washed it yet? You could rinse the stain with washing up liquid first.

colouringindoors · 02/08/2021 17:21

It's handwash or dry clean.

Was thinking of washing up liquid (big fan!)

Washing up liquid on the oil. Soak it for a bit then handwash.

FionnulaTheCooler · 02/08/2021 17:22

Try a squirt of Elbow Grease spray.

Do have a very gentle short wool cycle on machine - might be worth the risk? Not much to loose...

Bicarb on the oil, let it soak up the oil and then a bit of white vinegar on the bicarb just before you wash it. Worked on a t shirt for me

mathanxiety · 02/08/2021 17:24

You can wash a dry clean only or hand wash item in a washing machine.

Spot the oil first with wash up liquid, then use a wool wash cycle with woolite.

OwlBasket · 02/08/2021 17:24

Yy washing up liquid left on for a while before washing. I’d be tempted to risk a machine wool or silk cycle.

Thanks so much everyone for speedy helpful replies!

Much appreciated.

Am going to try the washing up liquid and wool cycle route...

🤞🤞

I use dry shampoo… spray onto oil mark, not too close. Leave for a bit, brush off, then wash. It’s worked for me on loads of clothes.

Notavegan · 02/08/2021 17:56

A waiter tipped a whole dish of olive oil over me. Got it out with an oil stain removed but I bet fairy liquid would do it

AbsolutelySure · 02/08/2021 17:58

Bicarbonate of soda to soak up the oil, then wash and repeat if necessary. I did read somewhere about ironing the item into grease proof on both sides

RainBow725 · 02/08/2021 17:59

Talcum powder before washing. Same principle as Bicarb I suppose.

Em8725 · 02/08/2021 18:02

At work we use deepio washing powder for oil stains. I’ve got a little tub at home for my blouses and aprons. It’s amazing stuff!

colouringindoors · 02/08/2021 18:32

Oil came out.

But it shrunk.

Hey ho, was worth a try.

thanks lovelies

Viscose looks like it’s shrunk after washing, but it relaxes out to normal size when dry!

colouringindoors · 02/08/2021 18:41

Really? 🤞🤞🤞

OwlBasket · 02/08/2021 19:18

Yes, I’ve had that happen. Reshape while damp and let it dry.

Chunkymenrock · 02/08/2021 19:30

Yes, let it dry then an iron at the recommended temperature. It will be restored!

colouringindoors · 03/08/2021 09:45

hmmm. dry, very slightly shrunk, but stain still there 🙄

Ironing it sandwiched between scraps of cotton is possibly worth a try, to blot the oil out and then a 2nd washing up liquid application and gentle handwash again?
