Henry or a newer model

Hello

I have a Henry acquired on marriage from DH. Both him and cleaner love Henry. I’ve been hoping for a long time he may retire but to no avail - he keeps chugging along. Anyway he must be at least 25 years old - I find him a pain. He’s heavy, takes up a lot of space and has a habit of falling over (and scuffing the pain work). Nevertheless he is a good worker and reliable.

Should I get rid and you recommend a preference, or should I accept him for his failings.

Many thanks x

LOL Henrys are indestructible !

I have a robot vac , would that be a option for you ? keep henry for the stairs . skiting boards etc

This is one of many robot vac threads , it should answer most questions

Theunamedcat · 31/07/2021 17:43

I would keep it i condemned my old Henry instead of fixing him my shark is shit cant suck up pet hair its literally designed for sucking up pet hair ive had to buy a rubber broom

Accidentgirlfriend · 31/07/2021 17:44

The newer hoovers won’t be anywhere near as good as your Henry .

AlbertoFrogsMilkshake · 01/08/2021 15:33

I have had Dysons and Sharks but fed up with them being temperamental have just bought a Henry. It’s great, I can do my weekly house clean and it just gets on with what it’s supposed to, without having to stop to empty, unclog, charge batteries… I have kept the Shark for quick in between single room cleans (messy children) though.

lazylinguist · 01/08/2021 15:52

I'm with you OP. Henry is a heavy, grinning, falling-over arsehole. Plus his tube bit with the attachment on the end keeps coming off the other bit of tube. And his hose has started falling out of his body occasionally too. I don't know what he thinks he's got to grin about.

Hanging around for recommendations... OP do you have carpets or hard floors or both? I have two sets of stairs and am suck of lugging that heavy, grinning goon up and down them!

cheeseychovolate · 01/08/2021 23:00

Miele or sebo are great hoovers.

jaundicedoutlook · 01/08/2021 23:04

Henrys last forever, but they are actually pretty crap when it comes to good suction. We had one years ago, but when we changed it for a Sebo cylinder cleaner it was just no contest.

OliveToboogie · 03/08/2021 14:18

I have a Hetty. Her suction is amazing. That doesn't sound right but you know what I mean.

SummerSaladsAreBack · 03/08/2021 17:37

I have a Miele cat and dog and a Henry (bought to clean up after building works). Henry is far quieter and just as effective so he tends to get used the most.

twoshoes86 · 04/08/2021 12:17

We have had Dysons and Sharks over the years but gone back to Henry. They are indestructible and rarely require a repair. Also good for builders/DIY. I even use it to clean the patio now! Admittedly they are cumbersome and take up space.

We also do have a Eufy RoboVac which we send around on a daily basis downstairs as we have kids in and out of the garden all of the time.

OldSpeclkledHen · 11/08/2021 22:07

I hated my Henry so I got a Dyson ...

I hated the Dyson even more.

I've got another Henry now.

Still hate him (falls over soon as you look at the twat) ... but at least he does suck up the mess 🙄🙄 that's my compromise

Lifeisaminestrone · 19/08/2021 19:34

Apologies - I went on holiday and forgot about hoovers!!

Maybe it’s destined to be a love hate relationship and I should just stick with him!!

Great idea about using for patio cleaning!! That’s a fantastic idea.

@OldSpeclkledHen is it the same Henry - bet he’s looking smug if it is!

@lazylinguist I have both hard and carpet floors, you could get a family - one for each floor?
My Mum does that with Dyson’s but Henry’s and Hetty’s take up so much space!!

I’ll be seeing him again soon but fear not have a brother of his in the holiday cottage!

@twoshoes86 - thanks for recommendation. I will have a look at that when back. Sounds amazing.

I just got a Henry Pet - it's brilliant. I have two Shih-Tzu and there's a lot of shedding goes on. Now - straight into Henry's innards.

I do have a GTech AirRam for the days when I just want to do a quick whisk over but it's crap for edges so I do need the Henry. I can totally recommend my Henry Pet. My son's dp used it the other day and was gobsmacked at the workout it gave her - really strong suction.

ohhhhdear · 26/08/2021 19:27

I'm so confused as to why anyone would want a Henry. They suck - or rather, they don't

Useless things, ugly and heavy

I have a cordless dud on and couldn't ask for a more sleek and convenient vac. Multiple attachments. The only problems with it are you can't use it while charging and it doesn't last very long on maximum suction. Would still buy again, though

NotMyFIrstTIme · 27/08/2021 14:43

I bought my first Dyson when it originally came on to the market & subsequently replaced it with a newer model. Replaced that with a Shark which lasted less than 2 years before I gave up & replaced it with a Henry. Love it, and wish I'd bought one years ago.
