How do we get the stench of puke out of DH's car?

DD has been sick this weekend -- in her car seat and on the backseat of DH's car. I tried to clean it with a pit of carpet cleaner and a wet muslin cloth last night. But he says it still reeks.

Any ideas how to get rid of the smell?

Bowl of vinegar in the car overnight should do the trick

half an onion!

or sprinkle with bi carb!

Any police officers on here? I ask because I once had to stop my car in a lay by because dd had been sick, and a police car stopped to help. They had this drum of amazing wipes - they smelled of orange and completely got rid of the sick smell. They very kindly gave me the rest of the drum, but it didn't have a label on so I can't get any more. Failing hijacking a police car, my mother swears by using bicarbonate of soda for getting rid of bad smells - brush it into the carpet and seats, leave it for an hour or so then hoover again. Good luck!

if you can possibly afford it get someone to come and valet it.It cost me £40 and they did a great job and it was worth it.If you can't could you hire a rug doctor and use that for adeep clean

Bi Carb really does work with the smell of sick - the only thing I've found that does. Make a paste of the stuff and really rub it in. Hard to then get the bicarb out (though it wil dry eventually and then you can hoover it) but bicarb in your car is preferable to the smell of sick!

Definitely try bicarb but rather than a dry sprinkle make a wet paste, scrub it in, leave to dry, then hoove out.

Be very generous with the bicarb, if you have lots to spare. On Sunday I used half a box (the big box you get from Boots, not the tiny baking ones) mixed with a bit of water on ds's mattress. Left it a few hours, then hoovered it up, and the smell was gone completely.

Thanks everyone!

OK - now how do I get the smell of sick out of a mattress, a pillow, a bean bag, a duvet, my pyjamas, his pyjamas, two soft toys, a rug and 6 books? Oh, and a hot water bottle cover!

One of my girls was sick in the car the other week. Wasn't even ours. It stank.

She was feeling sick and reached for a carrier bag - unfortunately she never realised it had holes in it, so it went all over her lap and the car.

She is 34.

When this happened to me I cleaned the seat very well, then bought a bottle of febreze and used loads on the back seat, it really was quite wet. then leave a couple of windows open a tiny bit to let it dry properly. Worked for me.
