Window cleaning

I booked a window cleaner for the first time recently. I usually do try to do them myself but the top ones do not open far so it is difficult to reach from inside.

The windows are covered in dried drip marks, and they look worse than before (especially when the sun hits them, it is shameful😫)

The website promised nice and shiny windows, as they use ‘purified water’ but the leaflet they left with the pricing says that ‘marks might be left at first due to residual chemicals from previous traditional cleaning methods’. Can anyone tell me if that’s the case, and if they’ve experienced similar with a first clean?

The first one was free so obviously not complaining to them, but I don’t know whether to bother paying for the next one

Um, that sounds a bit scammy to me. How did you find them?

user27424799642256 · 15/07/2021 19:39

Did you see their method?

1984isnow · 15/07/2021 19:47

Why scammy? I just found them on google, they have mixed reviews, a good few are awful, overall positive though

He just used a long brush connected to a hose

But it was free?

1984isnow · 15/07/2021 19:53

It was, they offer a free introductory clean and have quoted £16 per clean going forward

Did he rinse after scrubbing them?

1984isnow · 15/07/2021 20:01

I don’t think he did, I was working so I didn’t watch fully but pretty sure he only went over them once with the brush

£16 is ridiculous to start. Where are you?
My window cleaner use one brush connected to his van, rinses first, switches it to the solution brushes then rinses again all from one brush.
There's something in the solution so it doesn't leave drips or need a squeegee.
They've always been mark free.

From the little I know about the concept of "pure water cleaning" - which is essentially that using water with the minerals filtered out means there shouldn't be drying marks from calcium etc and therefore no need for a squeegee - you do have to rinse after agitating the dirt.

Otherwise all you're doing is just moving the dirt around on the window surface and leaving it to dry in a new arrangement.

That website's run by a franchise. Doesn't have any accreditations. Doesn't appear to be incorporated so no names anywhere.

The terms include a paragraph about "realistic" expectations.

In short though, if a business didn't do a good job on your free trial, why would you pay them to come back again?

Oblomov21 · 15/07/2021 20:19

Why not at least contact them. They may come back and do them again?

mommybear1 · 15/07/2021 21:30

I'm assuming this was a pole cleaner not a traditional window cleaner? We had this with our last window cleaner - didn't have them back - when showing the new window cleaner he said it was probably due to them not cleaning the water/wrong concentration of washing agents. If I was you I would tell them (they may redo for free) but use another window cleaner.

Is 16 too high or too low? Have no idea but am interested because you say it is ridiculous.
Cheerio21 · 16/07/2021 09:13

@Cissyandflora too high! 🙈 but then suppose where she lives I'm in NE

Thanks all. I thought £16 was reasonable tbh based on google! I’m in East Mids.

I haven’t asked them back to rectify because it’s a free clean so I feel a bit cheeky, I also wasn’t sure if this is to be expected with the first clean (as they have indicated it is)

I think I will just go with another cleaner but have a chat with them before booking. This one turned up on a couple of days after the booked date, and I was in the middle of working so just had to open the gate quickly and let him get on with it.
