Stinky Trainers

What are you best tips for fresh smelling trainers? Since having to wear PE kit all day at school and the recent weather meaning they have wet feet all day, the DCs' trainers have taken on a certain eau de cat piss.
I've tried washing them with tea tree and Dettol laundry liquid but the underlying pong remains. Do the sprays work, or the little freshener bags that you keep in the trainers when they're not being worn?

I have heard that if you put them in a bag or a pillow case etc to not damage the washing machine - you can wash them.

Depends on cost of trainers I suppose .

Afterwards just leave them somewhere they can dry slowly.

Yes I have tried washing them but alas, they still smell bad.

I wear boots at work and had similar smell issues. 12 hour days in hot hospitals! I use a powder I got off amazon called shoe rescue and it works fab!! I put a tiny spoon in each as I put them on. Then I have bamboo shoe bag things that I put in them when I'm not wearing them. Made a huge huge difference

The only thing that has worked for me is Acti Fresh spray. It kills the bacteria to prevent the smell and is used on the feet and shoes. Have a look at the reviews on Amazon.

no-stink.com/

I use no-stink and put them in my sports and cycling shoes between wears. They are great. You can get then on Amazon and at some of the big sports stores

Vinegar neutralises odour so maybe some white vinegar spray and a scented drier sheet in the shoes would work

Baking soda.
