Best white cotton bed linen that stays white!

I've used White Company bed linen for years but have noticed it goes off white after a while (as in, within a year) can anyone recommend Cotton bedlinen that actually stays white?

King of Cotton - and wash with a laundry whitener.

minipie · 03/07/2021 13:46

Yy King of Cotton. Much more robust than White Company, although fewer styles

TheSockMonster · 03/07/2021 13:51

If you don’t mind actual linen fabric, I’ve had a white linen duvet cover and pillowcases from H&M and spare white linen pillowcases from Soak and Sleep that all look crisp and white after a year.

My daughter has a cheap white cotton mix ruched duvet from Amazon on her bed and that’s stayed white too, as has the white cotton cheesecloth style duvet from Wilko on the guest bed and the white Dunelm fitted sheets on all the beds.

Could this just be a White Company problem or something to do with the washing detergent you are using? I use Method laundry liquid, no fabric softeners and the occasional scoop of Vanish oxi action crystal white. I did have one white duvet cover that seemed to discolour a bit, but only after I’d had it for about 10 years!

White company bedding is shit I don't get the hype about it. I've some lovely sets from Dusk that have stayed white

HoppingPavlova · 03/07/2021 14:00

Missing the point entirely - why would anyone want white sheets in a domestic situation? I understand them in a hotel or medical setting but why would someone want that laundry hassle at home?

thecapitalsunited · 03/07/2021 14:32

It might be your washing routine. For white sheets the best thing is a powder detergent because it has bleach in it and keeps whites. I’m not sure you can get rid of the yellowing once it has started though.

@HoppingPavlova I prefer white sheets because they go with everything and you can use bleach etc to keep them looking great. They also don’t fade in the sun. I had some lovely sets in the past which have sun bleached on one side or the pillows have faded differently to the duvet because the duvet gets folded back during the day to air the bed.

I only have white sheets, and towels. They look cleaner to me. No hassle with washing, I use OMO on 60 degrees and line dry. Stays white.

Perfectlystill · 03/07/2021 14:42

I only have white sheets and think coloured ones look a bit studenty. I have White Company but am interested in King Cotton as never heard of them.

What is percale? What do people recommend from King Cotton?

Perfectlystill · 03/07/2021 14:43

Sorry I see it's King OF Cotton

Caspianberg · 03/07/2021 14:54

King of cotton definitely. We had white company first but after a few years they literally started disintegrating!

King of cotton we use for our B and B as well, everything washed often and on 60, tumble dried and all white white.

I wouldn’t ever go back to non white bedding, I always wonder if there’s hidden stains or something on patterned stuff

Because I like them. Always crisp and fresh
Dropdeadfred2 · 03/07/2021 15:17

I bought 2 different white bedding sets from dunelm and they both wash brilliantly and stay very white

badgerread · 03/07/2021 16:38

Thanks everyone, I'll take a look at King of Cotton. I use Ariel All in One pods, Vanish and fabric softener usually but will try powder next time.

I've always had white bed linen to the person who said why would you. It goes with everything and looks clean and fresh (well, not mine atm obviously otherwise I wouldn't have posted 😀)

Thanks everyone!

I’ve got white cotton bedding from next and it’s still white several years on ... I do use vanish crystals in every white wash though.

thecapitalsunited · 03/07/2021 18:16

@badgerread Line drying will help keep your sheets white too. The sun will naturally bleach.

DarlingCoffee · 10/07/2021 11:26

Dusk always has good sales on if you’re looking for other options. I also only have white bed linen!!

Fluffycloudland77 · 11/07/2021 22:11

Use more powder than you think and press the extra rinse button.

WC is rubbish though.

Blueberry40 · 11/07/2021 22:16

Can recommend white cotton bedding from Next- we’ve had ours for about 3 years and it washes really well, still bright white.

thenightsky · 11/07/2021 22:23

I got a some of this 1,000 thread count stuff off Brand Alley a couple of years ago and it still looks like new.

PerveenMistry · 11/07/2021 22:28

Just a thought but I collect vintage sheets and pillowcases from ebay and etsy. Surprising (here in US at least) how many opened packages from 60s and 70s are sold online. Or excellent quality gently used.

Can't beat those crisp bleachable percales compared to the soft fuzzy cotton of today.

Good for environment to buy vintage as well.

RedRosie · 11/07/2021 22:33

All my bed linen and towels are white ... I buy M&S usually. It's been good. All white washes are with bio powder and at 60 degrees.

BitterTits · 11/07/2021 22:34

Mine is years old from Sainsbury's and still white.
